The fact that The Cup will be "the highest/best set to collect for years to come" saddens me. I'll miss Panini.

The prices for the /99 NT rookies are really silly... great for hobby "investors," but in time they will take a bit of a realistic dive in price, but still hold relatively nice value due to some of the awesome patches. I still can't get over people asking for thousands of dollars for some of them.. Even when 11-12 The Cup came out many of the RNH /99 RPA didn't go that high.

The reason the NT prices are silly right now is because so many non-hockey collectors have jumped on the bandwagon for a hot new and loaded product. I can't believe how many NT cases are being busted by guys who have no idea of the value or the player. In no way am I bashing them, but they are pricing their cards based on what they've seen from NT Football and especially NT/Flawless Basketball.

Just posted this on another forum about the same discussion...
As long as people are willing to pay more for smaller swatches, lesser quality (acetate vs paper), higher serial numbering (249 vs 99) and ones that are also event worn, then the Cup will remain king. What people don't realize is you determine the value. If you want something to beat the Cup....then pay more for it. If they put out an Exquisite but people pay more for Cup, then the Cup still wins. If you like it more, pay more, and the value will always be there and stay there. Simple economics.
Dominion was also lesser SRP product than NT and it also didn't have the National Treasures branding that has become so popular with the other sports.
Only time will tell, but hopefully one day, collectors will be more demanding and demand more from their Cup rookies without blindly paying more just because it has a Cup logo on it. Otherwise, why do they have to give you bigger swatches or game worn material or any enhancements to their programs?
It reminds me of Apple. There are better phones and tablets on the market that have more features and better quality, but as soon as Apple releases a new iPhone or iPad, the consumers line up and pay willingly due to the brand recognition.
