    authentication

where is the best place to get something authenticated? i have a Wayne Gretzky auto on a horse racing sheet. my dads boss was a owner of many races horses in the 90's and his horses would race at the meadowland in NJ. my father and his boss ran into Gretzky in the owners boxes and he signed a racing sheet for my dad. I rather not send it away to get graded because of the potential value of it. what is your thoughts.

Not sure the value will justify the cost of two way shipping and authentication but if looking for resale PSA is a pretty popular authenticator.

Not worth it in my opinion. Certified autograph cards and autographs from UD Authenticated are the only Gretzky autos that have any value. Way too many fake "in-person" autographs out there that I wouldn't trust third-party authenticators to weed out.

Not it saying yours is fake or anything, just saying that only the certified stuff is trusted by collectors. I've seen some real sketchy looking Gretzky autos that passed authentication but I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

Great Info above. I also don't think it would be worth it. Not many people after Autos that aren't on Pucks, Cards, Photos. Your market would be very limited. It will not have as much value as you think. I have no idea how much authentication costs but I know its not cheap. I wouldn't do it.

If you don't want to send it away, your best bet would be to go to a National card show. They have graders/authenticators at the shows that will do it for you overnight. I don't know any of them that would do it right in front of you (if you really don't trust them). But you drop it off at their booth one day and pick it up the next. But that also is the most expensive way to do it.

The US National show or the Toronto semi-annual hockey show would be your best bet. Some of the larger regional shows will also have graders/authenticators on premises. But there your choices of which company will be more limited.
