    Young Gun Prices

I know the Mcdavid hype is crazy, but isn't it alittle ridiculous a Mcdavid/Crosby is around the $200 mark CDN. And then you look at someone like Stamkos who you can pick up for $50. Then you go to Carey Price / Lundqvist and his YG's you can find for under $20?! Best goalies in the league (when not injured anyway) and his YG is that much different from those guys? I dont know if they made more back then as I wasn't really in the hobby for the last 8 or so years, But It seems to me that they are losing alot of value as you get older ones, Even Getzlaf and older players YG's are almost worthless it seems. Are Mcdavid's and Crosby's going to be $20 in 7-8 years? Or am I missing something here?

mistaken the oversized for the regular YG's on the price. But either way theres still many future hall of famer's you can get for around the $20 mark including Lundqvist (and I know theres lots of lundqvist collectors around)

The folks paying the premium for McDavid will never ever see that money again.

You mean like ovechkin selling for $60 and McDavid 4x that....
Yes McDavid will score 2000 goals in his career.....not...

Lundqvist does not really sell...most rangers don't....probably the worst of the Original 6....even his Ultimate/SPA is relatively cheap.
Getzlaf/Perry are on Anaheim plus they are boring and past their prime...McDavid will never score 50 goals ever like Perry but it does not matter....

You have to remember these are USD$ prices now so $50 is $70 and most buyers are Canadian...

Price sells because he's on the Canadians...otherwise he'd be like $30.....his career stats are average...he's a failure in the playoffs and he had one good year
When you get 10000 + YG's of each player....you can't expect them to sell for much...supply vs demand...

There are some surprise older YG's that still sell well...MAF,Datsyuk, Nash, Rick Nash sells for crap but his YG's sells crazy....this is what low supply does...

It is like this in every sport...every new hype sells for more than established stars....

King kuba summed it up very well. Hype sells the best, but outside of the that a player needs to be doing special things to keep or increase in value. Think of thoe old saying "what have you done for me lately". Really surprised Ovechkin can't even get to $150 CDN after scoring 500 this year. Where the 02-03 YGs short printed?? I know that the exclusives only had /75 then, today they are /100.

I'll take $20 Carey Price YG's any day of the week. LOL You're definitely "missing something here" if you think you'll ever see a Crosby YG for $20.

The hobby is all about hype. Right now the hype is all about McDavid. He's the most hyped prospect in a decade and his early play on the ice supported the high values. When he returns and starts lighting it up again, you can expect to see things jump back up to where they were when he was on fire to start the season.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Like others have stated, it's all about the demand, where they play, what nationality, etc. All those factors can play a part in YG sales. Take McDavid for example: He's been hyped up since his days in AAA hockey with the Marlies, gets drafted # 1 overall to the Edmonton Oilers, Canadian kid, etc. Us Canadian collectors go nuts for that stuff.

Sometimes it's not all about their production on the ice. Now, it can play apart, as seen with Carey Price's Young Guns, but often it's the other factors mentioned that ultimately dictate the selling price of a Young Guns rookie card.
