    Best Mcdavid Autopatch option?

    Hey guys,
As I am new to this board and the autopatch rookie card world. I am looking for your opinions or rank of Connor McDavid's most desirable autopatch or just straight autograph card I should pursue. My budget is around $1,000 (Stretched to $1,500 if need be) and the only requirement is it must be an on-card signature, not a sticker.

Some of the cards I am considering:
    - SP Authentic's Future Watch/AutoPatch (haven't seen on Ebay but know it was released a month ago)
    - The Cup Auto Patch (haven't seen online and probably crazy expensive if it is even out yet)
    - UD Draft Day Marks (looks cool having seen a few on Ebay but don't know card reputation)
    - UD Black Diamond Black Diamond Signatures Placards ( /149)
    - UD Black Diamond Silver on Black Rookie Auto ( /99)
    - Others I am sure I missed?

There seem to be so many it is a bit like paralysis by analysis. Looking for an enduring card which will hold i's value (increase in value possibly) in the eye of other collectors. Given the strength of this forum, I am really eager to hear how you would rank McDavid's most desirable signatures!

    Rick

    Welcome to the boards!

Luckily you'll have a couple more months of saving until the most sought after McDavid auto and/or patch cards are released. 15-16 SP Authentic with have his regular Future Watch and Future Watch Patch Auto, but that wont be until May 2016, possibly even getting pushed back into June. The Cup Auto Patch will be his most expensive (I'd guess you're looking at anywhere between $3500-4000+) and that more than likely won't be released until September.

Thanks for having me aboard. So given that my wife would kill me if I dropped 3-4k on The Cup autopatch, then it sounds like the next most valuable and sought after autopatch (tier 2 so to speak) would be the SP in May. So you'd recommend I hold out for that versus jumping on the current card options then?

Anyway you slice it, you've got some waiting to do... the best products won't be out for a little while. As mentioned above, The Cup will be THE RAP (rookie auto patch) to own, but will be out of your budget for sure.

SP Authentic Future watch will have a RC Auto /999 and Patch version /100. I can't speculate what those will go for, but it may be pushing your limit.

Another future release to look out for is the Ultimate Collection RC Auto /99. McDavid will be one of the /99 SPs for sure, and would probably hit in your price range. The patch variation will probably go too high though.

His Cup won't be 3500 to 4k. It will be double that for bad patches.

SP Authentic Future Watch Auto Rookie /999 will be your best bet for a McDavid in yuor price range ( will most likely be saving money on your $1000 limit )

Dont go for rookie year autos, if youre only buying one, make it it a True Auto Rookie ... that basically means SP Authentic, OPC Platinum or Black ...... but if youre down to those 3 options than SPA is the clear #1 choice. I dont think Ultimate Au RCs /99 will be in your price range.

Cup RC Au Patch /99 is going to run you way more than $3500 - $4000 ...... think $7000+ for a white patch ..... $9000+ for a 2clr patch ....... and good luck if theres an oil drop patch =S

My 3500-4000 range was really that far off? If I remember correctly I thought guys like Hall, Seguin, Nugent Hopkins etc. were all hovering around $2000-2500 on release day. I thought Crosby was the highest around $5000 right now, so I thought my guess was low, or roughly the 6 months later price... starting at $7000 for a white patch seems unbelievable to me.

I would go with SPA FWA or The Cup... but that would be out of the price range given. Still will be one epic card once 15-16 The Cup is released.

Expect the Cup rookie card for McDavid to be in the five figures, even a one colour will likely clear $10,000.

mcdavids stuff is selling for 3 time as much or better than Johnny Gaudreau last year. I think gaudreau cup patch autos were going for about 4-6K when they first came out. I can see Mcdavid going for about 15K. 12K for the 1 color patches. Just the base sp game used and black diamond Mcdavids go for 1200-2000.
