I will defend my picks. Carmelo doesn't belong because he is the worst defensive player I have ever seen! There are about 40 more guys I would put on here before him! Oden is on the list because he will be a top 10 player the second he steps on the court in the NBA. He would have been the first pick in the NBA draft 2 years ago when he was a junior in high school! Say what you want about him, he is a defensive center compared to Bill Russell! He is alot like Lebron. Young kid, playing with a mans body. Whoever wins the lottery will be a playoff team for years to come.

have you seen him play... he admits he is nowhere near ready for the NBA even offering to redshirt this year. ESPN says he is ready for the draft anyone that knows him knows he isnt.... he may laeve OSU early but i dont think he will be the force people think he will be right off the bat... Im not saying he wont ever be top 25.. but def not now and i really doubt he will be in his first few seasons... how many big guys have recently came into the NBA and dominated?

tutall, only one I can think of is Garnett but he can play the perimeter and doesn't play a big man position even though he is 6'11, I think.

And Oden averaged 12 and 8 in high school? Man, I averaged 8, 14, and 5 blocks. But I went to a small school :(

he averaged 14 and 10... i average 12 and 8 and truthfully played some of the exact same competition.... we both had several of the same schools on our schedule.... he played against Josh McRoberts a couple years ago and McRoberts DOMINATED him... Hansborough was the same way a couple years ago on ESPN.... plus he hardly played against any height... i watched him play Marques Johnson who is now down at Tennessee playing the point at 6'5" and Marques shut him down... he had like 8 points and a few rebounds against a 6'5" guy

Garnett was the only one i could think of also

Who cares what YOU did in high school? How is it relivent? Oden has been drooled over since he was 13! Who was the last big man to come in a be a factor? How about Duncan. And Oden is bigger and just as quick as Duncan. I agree his offense will take awhile to develop. But defense is the key to winning, and he would be the best defensive Center in the league now!

wow... First off i didnt see the post that changed this from the best players to the best defensive players... second what does me playing the same people have to do with anything... I scored about the same average as a 7 footer. he should have fricken dominated those guys. I am 6'5" and still had the same stats... trust me i know stats arent everything and i am sure he averaged more blovks and changed more shots than i did but he is 7 feet tall... you could put a monkey on the court who is 7 feet tall and he could at least score a few points and block some shots.... Again... i amnot saying he wont ever be a star but this is for the top 25 active players and he is no where near that... most talked about player coming out.... ya... Darko was pretty close and so was Harold Miner... anytime you have a 7 footer they are going to get attention... then when ESPN finds out about them all hell breaks loose.

I follow high school basketball in indiana pretty much religiously and this guy at this point in the game is not ready for the NBA... he knows it, I know it... people that have seen him before know it... ESPN doesnt

Yeah, I don't know when this turned into the best defensive players list either. But how about Emeka Okafor? If that were the case Okafor would be top 25. He has the same rebound average and has more blocks per game than Duncan.

But I believe tutall. ESPN has this thing where they over-hype everything. It's all about ratings! He COULD develop into a very good player but right now, top 25 in the league? Haha. Laughable.

Overhype, everyone said the exact same thing about Lebron! And they were wrong then too. Maybe I should pu tuttall on the list since he is so great. Idiot. Minor was not a defensive player, and neither was Darko. Everyone knew Darko was a bust when dunbass Dumars drafted him! Oden is already a man. That is the difference. So was Lebron. Lebron was in a mans body, and was ready for the NBA. Oden will be the #1 pick next year. He will be considered untradealbe. How many guys in your top 25 are untradeable? The Heat would give Shaq away if they could dump his contract. Iverson, Pierce, Ben Wallace, Ray Allen and half the guys on your lists would be given away if someone was dumb enough to eat their contracts. Oden will be one of the 10 players in the league that is untouchable. Oh, and btw, defense matters alot! Most people think Jordan was the best ever because his dunks, and last second shots. He was the best because he played D, and created those scoring chances. That was the difference between he and Dominique. Dom could score on anyone, just didnt play D. Melo sux! That is the most overhyped player ever! NO D period!

First off please refrain from using personal attacks towards me in the future. Second if you read the title of the thread it says top 25 NBA players... First greg oden isnt even a pro player yet, second it does not say top 25 defensive players... you say MJ was great because he could play D and make scoring chances for himself.. well so can Bruce Bowen... Oden cannot make chances for himself. Again... did i anywhere in this thread say he will never be good? no i didnt... i said he is not top 25 right now. I think if you put him against a true center in the NBA right now he gets dominated like no other. He is outweighed by most college centers let alone centers like Shaq, Yao, ETC that have been putting on muscle for several years at the professional level. Its a whole new ballgame
