They're tied for 2nd in their division right now.... I think there's a very good chance Ottawa makes the playoffs.
Ottawa never beat Toronto in a playoff series? How many players still in the league that were on those teams? lol

To be fair, when in the past 12 years have the Leafs given them the opportunity?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Marc Bergevin's strategy today was to acquire players who speak loudly and carry a big stick. Literally. He picked up a lot of big players today.

Trade deadline summary
Yzerman with a brilliant flip of Filppula to Philly for Streit then Streit to Pit for a draft pick. Clears 5M in space and removes a required expansion protection slot.
Montreal- some depth moves but to me it seems like they should have done something more.
Toronto- Dont love that Fehr trade even though they pick up a free 4th round pick essentially.
Overall conclusion: zzzzzzzz

Toronto probably wont make the Playoffs this year though we are hanging on to the final spot but there is much to be excited about in Leafs Nation. We have the #1 powerplay in the League, not bad for a bunch of teens, & if we can ever get a defence lookout. where's Edmonton?? & Montreal will go as far as Price takes them & the way he has played this year i doubt that will be very far. So, i dont know what the 2 of you are running off about, your teams suck too. At least Edmonton has Mcdavid & some half decent players. The Habs have Price & if he gets injured we know what happened last year right!! You guys had your Cup Parade already scheduled then didnt even make the playoffs. I believe the second half of the year they were the worst team in hockey.. Yeah, yeah i know you got Patches, Gallagher & Galchenyuk too but where were they when the Habs couldnt win a game last year. They go as far as Price & thats it.. I doubt they get out of the first round this year..

Really slow day for a trade deadline...
Well at least the Canucks have some nice prospects.

Edmonton ?? After a decade of futility, they're going to make the playoffs too! McDavid (it looks like) has actually been able to turn the team around :)
Leafs will probably make the playoffs. A lock? No... they're hanging onto that last spot.... in all honesty, I'm actually expecting the Bruins to fall out of their spot, Leafs & Panthers both making it.
I'm not saying the Leafs suck at all. I think some fans are getting ahead of themselves (I don't actually think all that much of their rookies, aside from Matthews) and I wouldn't expect them to make a particularly deep run...
My comments were really about Ottawa anyway. They're a team I really don't care about one way or another, they're pretty much a lock at a playoff spot, and I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they won a round.... maybe even two. How brutal Ottawa has been in past playoff runs vs the Leafs.... there isn't a single player on either team that's still around from the last matchup, so I would still say it's meaningless.

Yzerman comes out of all this looking like the smartest GM at the trade deadline. He even got someone to remove his Big Boyle for him.
My suspicion is that within a couple of years the Lazar deal will be viewed as this years biggest blunder.Last edited by piper1; 03-01-2017 at 05:54 PM.

There's a pretty compelling reason for the Sens not beating the Leafs in the Playoffs....The Leafs never MAKE the Playoffs!! And when they have, the Sens made it possible by missing themselves! On those rare occasions when both teams were in, Ottawa was kind enough to the Leafs to lose to Buffalo!Always looking for Senators cards! Must be a draft pick, or the card is identifiable as a Senators card before I want it!
As most of you know, I suffered a fairly severe stroke in April '25, so mail goes out anytime!

@jameslacarte I'm only slagging on the Leafs because, as a Sens fan, it's what ya do! Believe it or not, I was a Leafs fan in the not so glorious glory days of the 70's! I stopped being a Leafs fan because honestly, it's not the TEAM I dislike, but management, and especially out here in Vancouver, Leafs fans are by and large, ignorant! When I have a co-worker come to me and say " WE JUST WON THE STANLEY CUP!" at the trade deadline, because they just traded for Owen Nolan(???), then yeah, I'm a little irked!
Leafs fans out here, and management, pre Shaman, all had the same problem...The team didn't suck, it was always an officiating problem!
So don't be offended by my comments. I do it partly for humour, and partly cuz it's expected, but I'm not doing it to be a class A jag! I'm a hockey fan in that the GAME means more than a team does! If the Sens make the Playoffs, my voice will be loudest on the West Coast! If they don't, I'll find another team to cheer for, simple as that! I once had a regular customer tell me that I'm probably among the very few that can objectively cheer on my team, because I know when they're good, bad, or just plain garbage, and more than once I've posted comments to Sens management about office decisions I felt were stupid ( Coach Clouston anybody?)
And that's all I gots to say about that!
