so overall, do you think one brand is better than the other? Or would you value them relatively the same.
In other words if I wanted to buy a luongo YG is there really a big difference between gold reserve or non-gold reserve?

Could go either way.
Luongo, of course, the YG isn't a Rookie Card. He had cards in 97-98 (like the Sedins), so his RCs fall in Black Diamond & Zenith (Team Canada), Beehive (Jr card), and Donruss Elite (with the Isles).
That being said, I recognize that many people value the Young Guns brand as much (or more) than worrying about weather or not it's actually a Rookie Card.
I don't think you'll see much of a price difference between the two cards. The base UD set is likely more popular with collectors, the Gold Reserve probably isn't as plentiful. I wouldn't be able to say "this is the must have card". I think they're pretty equal.

The gold reserve seem to sell for less in my limited experience. That makes me think that their either more common or viewed as a less-desirable parallel.
