If my choices are Getzlaf or Perry, I'd probably go with Perry. My choice would be neither. Really good players. Not HOF.

so carbonneau gets in because of 4 games yet henderson doesnt make it after scoring the winning goal in the last 3 summit series games
that makes no sense at all either both or neither based upon that my vote would go to henderson.

Henderson had a good career, and got hot during what's likely the most important international tournament in history. His series winning goal is probably the most famous goal of all time (Bobby Orr flying through the crease would be the other one I'd put up there with it
Henderson, as part of the '72 Team Canada, is certainly going to always be on display in the HOF - but I don't believe his career was good enough to get him into the HOF.
Carbonneau - The three Cups, and three Selkes are what got him in. He was regarded as one of the alltime best defensive forwards. If I had a vote, I wouldn't have voted for him.... he's part of the long list of HOFers I think got in due to a combination of longevity, being on the right teams at the right time, and running in the right circles (have the right friends) post career (Kevin Lowe is another, right off the top of my head). Really good career, but IMO - not one of the all time greats.
I'm with you on the idea that neither Carbonneau or Henderson should be in - but I suppose if I had to pick one, I would take Carbonneau. He never had a week as magical as the one Henderson had in '72, but the total of his career was greater IMO.
It's what the makes the HOF talk a fun one (and maddening, at times). There are a LOT of players who got in, in the past 20 years, that I don't believe should be in. There's a few that keep getting snubbed that I think should be in. We'll never all agree on it :)

so by that kinda thinking everyone on the islanders during their run should be in the hall with 4 straight cups. especially the defensive forwards. i dont buy that --- carbonneau was a political choice in my opinion.of course being a leafs fan living amongst habs fans .... i am biasd
everybody contributed but most didnt have great careers, solid but not great
the number one thing that bothers me about Perry is he was such a butcher with his stick. and i know booby clarke is a similar type player and i have often asked did the flyers make clarke great or did clarke make the flyers great i think it was the former. it takes a team and teams have leaders i have seen good players make their linemates much better than they actually were
after they signed for mega bucks elsewhere. think Hyman for example. would clarke have made the leafs champs? i doubt it. would perry not a chance

Look at the 2012 hall of fame class...none of those players should be in IMO. It is not a "hall of fame"...it is a "hall of very good"

I don't think you're wrong. There's obviously a lot of "personal preference" when this topic plays out. You mentioned the Isles: Clark Gillies isn't a HOFer, if he played for pretty much any other team. Bobby Clarke? He's regarded as one of the best of his era (yes, a butcher too). I'm not old enough to claim to remember him. I only know what I can read, and what I see in highlights. I don't think anyone would argue he's a HOFer, but if he'd ended up on the 1970s Capitals, and scored a bunch less - does he become one? Maybe not.... but he was the best player on a team that won multiple championships, and racked up great individual numbers, awards, & accolades.
I wouldn't vote for Perry either, but I dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets it.
Sakic, Sundin, Bure, and Oates? I'm pretty critical of some of their selections, but I think those guys were all solid choices.
I'm guessing you meant 2021 :) - and I agree with you, mostly. The Sendins & Alfredsson are in there, because they were really fantastic players, great people, and played for clubs that have never really had any HOF caliber players you'd identify with that club (Bure with Vancouver being the one obviously HOFer). Never once did they strike me as all-time greats though.
I would have voted Luongo though. Dude was lights out. Played for mostly weaker teams, so I won't hold the lack of championships against him.

Some solid players in that class in my opinion. A guy like Sakic truly deserved to get there.
