the best thing to do is attend card shows and auctions (the live ones, in person; not the Ebay one)......
Last month, at the Buena Park card show, some dealer was getting out of the businesss.....
and was selling 1989 Upper deck wax boxes for like $50!!!
That's right, $50......too bad it was sold out before I got there. But I did get quite a few other bargains!!

Card shows
"...only 10% of the building, if that, was dedicated to cards, and most of them were baseball cards from the 50's to the 80's. ''
Omigosh, I would love a card show down here in Florida that sold cards from the 1950s to the 1980s. Most dealers I talk to at shows say that they just can't move that product, which is a shame. Every once in a while, I will find a guy who is selling vintage stuff in a bargain box, and that's when I pounce.
There is plenty of new stuff out there. The gems are in the vintage cards, Just gotta dig them out.

I see cards from the 50's - 80's all the time
and most times, it just sits there at card shows as everyone looks for the more recent stuff.
plus, not too many dealers are willing to heavily discount the Hall of Famers from way back when
