Canada Post Tracking Question
Is it possible for me to track a card without registering it? When you register a card the receiver usually has to open the door or go to the post office to pick it up. Isn’t there a way to add tracking to a large envelope and just have the package delivered through the receivers mailbox without a knock on the door?

Yes, absolutely. You can use parcel shipping instead of registered mail.

It should cost the same or even less. Now I use Expedited Lite for collectibles, that is specifically what it is for. 200 grams or less, not thicker than 2cm comes with $100 Insurance, tracking and costs about $7.50 within Ontario. Obviously increases the further you go but I shipped to Yukon for I think less than $11.

Will they put this through the mail slot if I skip it as a parcel. Parcels are usually shipped to your door step

It really comes down to the individual delivering the package. I've had pieces left in my mailbox that had tracking, sometimes (rarely) I have to go pick it up if the item has signature confirmation. There was something delivered to me this past week while I was away....the delivery guy didn't even have the item in-hand, he just put the delivery slip on the front door and walked away (joys of the doorbell cam LOL).
To answer the source question, the only way to get tracking in Canada is to pay extra, the minimum is registered mail and you're looking about $8-$10 for that...all the way up to XpressPost which seems to be pushing $30 nowadays.
