What are you thoughts on this pickup.

I remember viewing these forums almost 15 plus years ago and folks talking about the UD Victory Black and they being so rare. Folks would post asking for advice, selling some, trading some, or just trying to find one which we all know is hard LOL. A flashback in time of a screenshot of all those posts for the Victory Black. So, I put in an offer on this card on ebay and thought it was a fantastic price when the dust settled.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/336034285346

So $16 dollars all in for a guy that just won his 2nd cup and a nice pull out of 1440. I mean that basically a breakdown of 1 rc card black per 2 master hobby cases.. Seen posts below that they were print run as low as five but no matter to me it a nice pickup. I think the guy who sold it found it in an under $5 dollar box as he had marked it up to $15 to sell locally. It amazes me but I can understand I would buy this card all day long at that price as it is cheaper than blaster box at the retail store. Anyone else have any nice pickups they would like to share feel free as I love seeing what other folks pick up from time be it ebay, shows, Facebook marketplace, etc.

    Have a nice weekend.

You bought that card now listed on eBay for $224.99 for $16, is that what you're saying? If so, yes that's a good pick up lol

I'm no fan of Bradley Marchand, but that's one great acquisition on your part. Nice find!

Nope, I bought mine for 13.50 or something like that with shipping and tax bringing it to about 16. I think there is only 2 copies out there that I seen besides this one so with him winning the cup and Boston being a collectible team and a sure fire Hall of Famer in my mind I put a bid on the auction. Guy started it at .99 cents I believe and I put a bid up to 20 something I believe.

the one you are talking about is graded Gem Mint 10 hence the person asking 224.99 cents for it. As I am sure there will not be another one to grade that high as there probably not even been another attempted to be graded.

Not a fan either but admit if he played for my team I probably would be a fan. We know he has the folks that hate him but he one of those guys you have to respect for stepping up his game when it matters. A productive player season in and out just not the top of the league by no doubt but one who is always going to put up some points.

I was surprised I did not lose it as I loose so many auctions it not even funny but hey you have to try when you find time.

    Thanks for the reply.

Oh I despise Marchand for many reasons but I think a lot of my hate for him is because he is a very good player and he was a great acquisition for Florida!

$16 all-in for a Victory Black RC Brad Marchand is a good pick up. Even if he had stayed in Boston and only won the 1 cup this card would still be a good pick-up. He will most likely retire as a Bruin so Boston fans will still want the card as well.

Amazing pickup, sometimes there are great deals to be had if you are at the right place at the right time.

    Congrats!

    Thanks,

I kick myself all the time as like this one I put a bid on and leave it alone. I loose about 97 percent of all my auctions I bid on. Of course I usually lose them by minimum bids or usually a 1 or 2 tops as another person or two bid it out. My wife would absolutely lose it if I won more as she thinks I have too much coming in now versus going out. LOL

    $16 is a steal IMO.

I think it's probably a result of people not looking for it, on a regular basis. "Young Guns", "Future Watch", and "The Cup" are all pretty common searches for these guys - but not many folks after the Victory, and newer collectors may not even be away of the blacks.

I think the "/5" print run became a bit of a myth. If memory serves, the Crosby year (05-06) they were serial numbered to 5. After that, we all just speculated..... but 5, 10, 20 - something like - that was the print runs (even if it's /20, that's an incredibly rare pull - and a card you're not going to see very often).

For context - Back in the 2009-10 season, I thought it would be a fun little side project to collect an Oilers rookie (try and chase everything). I ended up chasing all of Taylor Chorney's cards (still have them, would love to sell them as a lot, lol). I suspect I picked him, because he was the only Oiler rookie in Series 1.

I have NEVER seen a copy of his Victory Black. Not when the product was new, and not since then. I'll admit I don't really search for his stuff anymore (have not in years). The only cards I was never able to locate were:

    09-10 Victory Black #204
    09-10 Artifacts Black #198 x/5
    09-10 Black Diamond Onyx #168 1/1
09-10 SPGU Authentic Rookies Gold Spectrum #111 1/1
    09-10 The Cup RC #91 BLACK 1/1

(Along with various cup printing plates, though I have something like 40 of those.....)

What would you do if you found someone that had all those LOL. I agree they are pretty rare and it why I always thought it was funny that the Ud Young Gun gets all the love besides The Cup. As you said not sure how it would fall but as you said you could figure out the numbers with the insert ratio and the number of cards in the set for how many cases. Thanks for the response might have to look for some Blacks in Artifacts in the future.
