    Have tariffs affecting your purchases?

I have really cut back on buying cards from Canada on eBay. Many are charging $10+ for shipping. On top of that the buyer has to pay the tariff import fee and service fees charged by the carrier.
I won a $9.00 card. Paid $13 shipping. Card was delivered by UPS who charged me the tariff fee and a whopping "carrier service fee" of $30. I knew there would be a service fee, but didn't think it would be that much
I am definitely looking for US based sellers now, more than ever.

Has anyone else changed their buying habits because of the tariffs?

I would personally avoid foreign sellers for all the reasons that you mention.
I look for US sellers when purchasing online.

I have not had any issues with tariffs but the shipping charge has gone higher for sellers shipping both ways. Too many folks have to track their packages so they do not have sellers say they never got the package. Sad it has to come to this but there is so many fraudster out there looking to get cards for free. I would suggest just buying multiple cards to help offset the shipping cost if you can find enough cards to buy from one seller.

Shipping costs to US are much worse. I've even gone to the extent of avoiding CDN sellers who charge in US$ because it's not only the price, but the shipping AND sales taxes are in US dollars too. That's a bridge too far right now in my book, unless I REALLY want something.

In addition to the high shipping costs: Yes, I have had two purchases from Canada that I have had to pay UPS an additional $10. All so they could tell me that I do not have any duties/tariffs to pay. I think that is why UPS is giving cheaper rates than CanadaPost, because they get at least $10 extra per order. I had one from China that did not have duties/tariffs during that time frame.

I'm only buying from Canada on larger eBay purchases due to this. I, too, had a low value card I bought from Canada, paid the high shipping and then got hit with a $10 UPS charge. I've even recently had Canadian sellers cancel my orders because they didn't want to deal with the shipping headaches. Unfortunately, being a hockey card collector in the States makes this largely unavoidable, as the cards I need for my Roy PC at this point are only showing up from Canadian sellers. I've shifted my general PC focus to baseball and football lately, unless multiple cards come available from the same Canadian seller at once to make the economics work on it.

I had a pending deal with an American Poster on here. All I had to do is figure out the shipping costs.

For a 100+ gram packet I would have to fill out a customs form and pay betwen $15-18 Dollars.

It also possible that I might have had to prepay the duties and tariffs on top of that.

    Couldn't do the deal

I stopped using EBay years ago, and I've left Epack. The only buying I do, is singles through COMC, and even that is getting pricey. I did recently do a trade to the US here not long ago, and Canada Post told me yo download the Zonos Pre-Pay App, so I could prepay duties to the US now. Needless to say, but until the political garbage between our Nations is settled, I won't be trading with US based collectors for a bit.

My buying and selling has definitely changed since the tariffs being imposed. I charge $18 CAD to ship anywhere in the US which I used to be able to do for less than $10 with tracking/insurance. Even single cards worth a whopping $2 I have to charge $18 for shipping. On top of that, as I have to ship using UPS I am told the buyer has to pay a fee upon delivery. Needless to say my sales to USA has dropped about 95%.

Someone messages me the other day on feeBay. "Really, $15 shipping and no tracking" and I Said "Do you have the wrong person? Shipping paid was $3 and the total was $7+. You must have the wrong person". So anyways, I wasn't shipping to USA, I was shipping to an address I have been seeing lately which is in Mississauga (Toronto). I suppose this is another company that is able to bring stuff into USA for cheaper. I don't know. But THEY Charged the buyer $14.00+ for shipping but I only received $3 of that. So what do you think is going to happen? Obviously the buyer is already unhappy. I had to send them a screen-shot of the sale on my end to see that I only got $3 for shipping and the total of the whole transaction was less than $8. I may receive negative feedback for this one although it is not my fault. It is entirely the Trump administration that is causing these problems. I can only hope when his term ends that things can go back to normal. If it ever happens. Obviously Trump is going to try and get back in for a 3rd term eventhough that is not possible. He will try to bypass it somehow. I don't know if things will ever go back to normal.

All my US purchases are sent to COMC. It is the only way I can purchase from US sellers now.

I made a trade here with a USA member whom I deal with often. He sent me $200 worth of cards for a card worth about $200. Anyways, upon trying to ship this single card I was getting insane quotes of $70+ for shipping. And then I had to download this stupid zonos crap and I just said screw it. I took my chances by sending this single card in a No. 6 Coin Envelope with a $1.71 stamp and shipped it. It arrived. I have never ever shipped such an expensive card in such a manner but I was certainly not going to pay almost $100 in total to ship 1 card. Insane.

So the glory days are done. Americans cannot buy hockey cards from Canada anymore and Canadians cannot purchase other sports cards from USA anymore.

The only positive change I have seen is I have been selling more NFL, MLB and NBA cards to Canadians than usual and this is obviously because they cannot purchase from USA anymore.

All of this MAY change somewhat in the future, if only slightly. Apparently, the Supreme Court (US), has decided that the tariffs imposed by the US on Canada, are unlawful?
