hey to me if you put yourself out there with an opinion then you should be willing to accept what other people think of it
20 years of collecting and you don't understand that someone was simply willing to pay more than you? come on now. Are you sad that you were the winning bidder for 2 minutes and didn't get the item..?
I mean it isn't exactly an abstract concept to understand that only the ending price of an item matters, any sort of "action" you had before that point is completely in your head.. If $15 was your maximum price you probably wouldnt have been any closer to winning it had you bit with 2 days left or 2 seconds left.
I mean for all you know their "sniping" max bids could have been 5 times more than you were willing to pay. Fact is that they were willing to pay more and got the item.
So what does opinion have to do with this?
There's NO ground whatsoever for complaining about losing items in this way, which is probably also why eBay hasn't taken any action in terms of shutting down bid sniping programs..
The only thing advantageous about using sniping programs is the likelihood of paying less than your max because you tend to avoid people like you.. aka people who bid $5 more every few seconds until they are winning the item..

I am fine with what other people think of my comments, that's why I am still responding to comments. As for being sad because I was winning the bid for 2 minutes, well I guess you win some and lose some, these things happen but not sad, it's just a card and maybe I'll come across it another time.
I don't feel like I am complaining in any way about snipers, just making a comment about how I feel about the sniper programs, not the people who use them. I don't care for them and that should be the end of it. Its not like things will change, just have to be a bit smarter about my bidding. I think the main reason I was upset in the first place is when I was outbid it was with just a little time left, and I really didn't have enough time to rebid on the item. I've had enough of this conversation. I still feel the same, and if I can't win a bid because of a sniper, then its my problem and I'll leave it at that.

My two cents....
I agree with Tradebark that you have no regrets if you bid your top bid.
That being said I think "Swill" already knows that. He was just looking to "vent" amoung "friends" not "whine" as Tradebark has suggested. I think you were a little hard on SWILL Tradebark. If you cannot vent on the SportscardForum board what fun is it and what good is it. How many of us have beat ourselves up after missing an auction at the last minute. I myself am getting frustrated with EBAY. While it is a GREAT forum to buy cards it is killing the industry and grossly devaluing cards.
Once again just my two cents.
Swill if you really want the card email the guy. If he bought the card to "flip" it he might sell it to you for a 20% profit.
Have a good night

Value of a card really isn't anything, its just a piece of paper with ink or a piece of fabric.

In my opinion I like ebay sniper. I dont use it but a couple times in the heat of the moment Im sitting there and just throw a crazy high bid that will financially hurt my family and the sniper comes along and saves my life. It may hurt me some of the time, but Ill live with that so when I think I want something then I really think about and I start hating myself.

I use a sniper in ALL of my auctions. Without it I would probably have less cards and paid more, since I am NEVER home at the end of bidding because I work evenings.
I know DEALERS even who are buying without a sniper tool and are getting ROBBED. You can save 15-20% overall, not to mention, the most valuable resource we have... TIME.

Tradebark's point (correct me if I am wrong) is that people shouldn't complain that they didn't have a chance to "re-bid" because in reality eBay is set up so that re-bidding should never have to take place. You place you max bid 7 days, 7 hours or 7 seconds before the auction ends and let it take it's course.
I think that's his point in a synopsis.
