I agree with you to an extent.
My take on trading is if I can obtain a card I really like and have to give up a little more to get it I will do that and would hope that someone would in turn do that same for me ... example ... a member over at beckett had a nice Terrell Davis auto that BV was $25, he really needed a Tony Scheffler auto that I had and instead of going to say Ebay to buy one for about 8 bucks he decided to trade me the $25 Davis Auto for it. AWESOME DEAL and I would honestly say if he came back and wanted to trade again for lop sided BV I woudl anyday to return the favor!
Now ... on the other hand, if I was putting up my John Elway auto BV $200, I would not really be looking to trade for a bunch of $20 cards, BUT ... and a big BUT ... if I did it would be greatly in my favor and you would have to have something I really wanted. If I'm trading down on a high end card I may ask to add some BV to the card I am trading.

I don't mind the offer for lesser cards, but they should expect to send you more BV in return for the one big $ card in my opinion.

It's the "nature of the beast". I started collecting again heavily in this new "online" collecting world back in the 01-02 season.
It was a little before the e-bay pricing days, so very few people would try to take advantage of you that way. I'm sure there were a few though. They were still trying to trade their gold for your crap though. It will always be that way. It's that way at the shows, card store and even online forums.
People are just people.

I'm not seeing the problem, doesn't bother me at all...understand the resell the HOT item(s)of the day scenarios.....but I collect Phila.Eagles and if you offered me say 3-4 $25-50 Eagles Auto's(say Westbrook or McNabb...which are quite undervalued...IMO) I would gladly/eagerly do the trade for a high-end V.Young/Cutler/Bush in a heart-beat....the 06 rookies are far from being a good investment, quick re-sell maybe....but one decent season or a couple of gr8 games makes their cards WAY over-priced and valued IMO....when I luck out and get a Young/Bush auto thats selling for $300++, look me up I will be the first to offer it for 4-5 McNabb Auto's with a HUGE smile at that...lol!!

Really it comes down to the whole quality or quantity debate. I recently traded a $100 auto for 4 autos ($40, $15, $12, $10) and a $30 GU. If the card I'm trading has no personal value to me then I don't mind trading down to get cards I collect.

Bonds 25/soccer-n-golf: You make very good points and I certainly don't disagree with you. If you want to trade down or are willing to trade the high end for mid range cards for your collection then that's great. My problem though is with collectors who want to trade for high end cards, but are only willing to give mid or low end cards in exchange. They pic something out of your collection that is high end, but then almost seem insulted if you pick something out of their collection that is high end. Instead they want to try to make a deal with three or four of their low end cards. I go back to my example with prophet. I had a packers dual gu he liked, and when I found a Bradhsaw gu I liked of the same value we worked out a deal with no problems. But their are those who would have said, "Well I know its on my trade page, and I know it books the same value, but I'd rather not trade that card is there anything else you like?" Which I have come to find over the years means, "I'm not giving you my good card for your good card, but if you can find something junky enough that I don't want then we've got a deal!"
