I have thought about this more, and though I still think Shaq should have won MVP in 01-02 and 04-05 when it went to Duncan and Nash respectively, I believe there isn't a dominant individual force these days like we had in the 1990s. John Stockton and Jason Kidd are just as good if not better than Steve Nash, but they never won MVPs. They had to compete against the likes of Shaq, Jordan, Malone, Hakeem, and Barkley in their primes. Today, we have so much parity - just look at all the teams who are on pace to win 30-46 games. LeBron is too young to win MVP at this point, Shaq is too old and injured now (although the fact that the Heat can win so many games with him and without Dwyane Wade is STILL a testament to how VALUABLE he is as a player), Kobe's Lakers are no longer dominant (surprise - without Shaq)..that leaves us with Nash and Nowitzki. Last season, there were so many MVP candidates it was embarrassing. But since Nash directs a winning Suns team, he gets the nod for two (soon to be three) straight years..even if he didn't really deserve that first MVP IMO.

I wasn't a fan of Nash winning MVP the first time (at the time I thought it belonged to Shaq).. And last year I didn't object to it since there wasn't anyone else who stood out (It was Lebron and Kobe, neither of which had impressive regular season records despite gaudy stats)
This year though, he is putting up astounding numbers.. Before you haters start, remember that he's averaging right around 20 pts, 12 ast, 50%FG, 50%3PT, 90%FT.. These are numbers that VERY FEW players have put up over the years, and all the while it is resulting in wins, using an offense basically built around him.
If the Suns end the regular season less than 3 games back of Dallas in terms of their records, I don't really see why Nash wouldn't be in serious contention for the MVP.
As it stands, nearly every sportswriter is singing the praises of Dirk Nowitzki.. Although it is blatantly obvious (if unspoken) that this is largely because people are hesitant to give Nash a distinction Jordan (not to mention other players) never achieved.
However...
In the end, is this good for the league? A resounding YES!
Teams all around the league are looking for true point guards like Nash, rather than the 6'6 Jordan clone that teams have slobbered over since his time. The impact of a great PG is almost as great as that of a great center.. and swingmen (as illustrated by every SF or SG IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE) can NOT carry a team.
Yes, including your beloved Kobe.. and Lebron.. and Jordan.
Jordan is the greatest player in the history of the game, but couldn't win a ring before being surrounded by great players..

If anyone watched the game last night, it would be completely obvious that Nash should be the MVP over Dirk. Nash stepped up, while Dirk whined and got a technical, missed his free throw that wouldve ended the game, and missed his attempt at the game-winning shot. And yes that is just ONE game, but it was a HUGE game for the MVP race.
And while I think the suns have a VERY GOOD chance at winning the title this year, they still have to get through the Mavs and Spurs, which will be no easy task.
And I also dont think the MVP should be from the best team in the league. It should go to the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. Which is obviously Nash, he is irreplaceable. Just like Jordan was to the Bulls, and Shaq was in his prime (hes still pretty irreplaceable IMO).
