Target screwed me!
I went to Target today to look around and of course check out what packs they had. I saw a Value Pack for $9.99 of baseball cards and it said there was a MINIMUM Catalog value of $50. So I figured even if it was'nt the best stuff I would get at least $50 in value. These things are crap! So I went back to return them and the manager on duty said they dont take back collectibles if they were opened. I told her the packaging is misleading and she still said she couldnt and that I would have to take it up with the company on the back of the packaging. Im very pissed off! Im a manager of a semi large retail company and if there is something wrong with a product we carry we deal with it at the store specially if it was misleading to the customer and then we deal with the company. They should have done the return and dealt with the company themselves. Now I dont know if I should sue Target or that company that packs them. By the way the company on the box is FairField. Has anyone else been screwed by these packs because it might be time to start a class action law suit against these companys. Please respond back if you have any info! Thanks. Bobby

Just curious if you added up all the book values of the cards? What did it come out to?

Most retail outlets have policies against accepting opened trading cards because, unless you open them in front of a store manager and can demonstrate the flaw to them clearly, for all they know, you took it home and swapped out all the cards with something else and are just trying to cheat them of their $9.99.
About all you can take away from this is a lesson learned about these "value" packs and a stack of worthless cardboard.

I cant believe that old stuff of common players books that high. I feel better that it was close to the value they have listed on the package. I was more pissed thinking that they are screwing the kids out of there money! I can afford the $20 loss but a kid cant. I would have even taken a exchange but at least now that Im at home and check the values Im cool with it!
p.s. Do you think anyone would even want any of those in trade? Would it be worth posting in the trade forum?

Yeah, cards that Target, Walmart, & K-Mart carry are not really sold for those stores. Those things are brought into the stores by a vendor. From what I understand, the vendors pay so much to have their product on the shelf and the stores get a portion of the profits. The reason for this is the store has no overhead yet they still make some money on the sales. As for the return policy, most of those store do have it posted that once cards/collectibles have been opened, there is no return. About the pricing, I've seen on other packages that cards packaged met the value guideline when they were packaged. I've bought those in the past and had some that were more than the stated value and some that were less. I think that since these companies make these for all sports, they probably use Tuff Stuff for their guide, so that right there is going to affect the value if you're using Beckett since very rarely are the two ever the exact same price.
