    Should Brett Favre retire?

This question will be asked a lot in this NFL off season. Should Aaron Rogers be given a chance to step up and play or is Brett Favre still capable of taking the Green Bay Packers to the Super Bowl in the next few years? In my opinion that is what needs to be asked when Favre and the Green Bay Packers are making their decisions. If the Packers are rebuilding over the next few years Brett Favre should step aside as the Packers rebuild over the next few years and surround Rogers with the right tools. If they feel they can complete and make it to the Super Bowl over the next few years I say let Favre stay and get some experienced talent at wide-receiver.

Taking a look at Brett Favre's statistics shows a lot. Here are the main items that jump out to me.

First, 2006 is Favre's lowest completion percentage of his 16 year career at 56%. That is completing just over half your passes!

Second, if Favre does not throw a TD pass this Sunday, 2006 will be Favre's lowest passing TD season on record with 17. His lowest before this season was in 1992 with 18 (his first full season).

Many will argue that Brett Favre does not have the talent around him to throw a lot of touchdowns. When Javon Walker left, so did his chances of throwing 25+ TDs in 2006.

Anyway you slice it, Brett Favre's statistics don't look good for him and the Packer's are paying a lot of money to have Aaron Rogers on the bench. The best comparison I can think of is the Philip Rivers/Drew Brees scenario in San Diego last season. You have a high draft pick sitting on the bench with a full year of clip board experience. I think the Packers have to consider asking Brett Favre not to come back next year or ask Brett Favre to fill a mentor roll as a #2. This may be the best move for a rebuilding Packers team.

I saw an interview a couple of weeks ago where he said that he would hate to retire knowing that there was still some gas in the tank.... So, if it is up to him, I think that he wants to continue the course....

Should he retire? I don't know. He's accomplished so much in his career. There might be a few records he can take, but that's no reason to stay for a mediocre season (although he's done better this year than expected). I think he'll stay one more year.

i don't think he's gonna retire and the reason is Steve McNair. Everyone said McNair was washed up due to multiple injuries over the past few seasons....switches teams, takes a dip in the fountain of youth and it sickens me to say this, has the Ravens in position to make a run to Miami in February. Brett's probably gonna get delusional and end up in some outhouse team thinking he's the missing link to a super bowl contender....and will probably look more like a missing link in man's evolution. He's damaging his reputation of being one of the greats of all time by not knowing when to hang it up. I'd hate to see him hang on to the point that he gets the humiliation of being cut on the last day of cutdowns like Jerry Rice...

Yeah, so SportsCenter doesn't use him as the top story every day during the offseason. It gets annoying. "IS THIS BRETT FAVRES LAST YEAR!?" We get it, the guy is old and can't make up his mind. While we're at it, TO should retire also.

I think he should do what the city of Green Bay wants him to do. I agree that TO should retire before anybody else.

I think the Packers are showing no kind of hope in Aaron Rodgers. They have not really given him one chance to succeed, after they spent a first round pick on him. Favre is a hell of a player, Hall of Famer, but not any more. He needs to give it up and try to let his team show what they can do without him. The Favre area should end now.
