spending time...
as some of you might know i went to a card show this past weekend. i decided to take my 6 yr old step daughter so we could spend a little time together before the new little one arrives. well that and to get her out of moms hair for a while. lol.
well a few months ago Kiersten had asked me for some trading cards. so i told her if she was good i would pull some for her, but she had to really take good care of them. she took them and i hadnt seen them again. to be honest i had forgotten about them. then a couple of weeks goes by and he asks again, so i give her a few more. this goes on til this weekend. i had probably given her about 100 cards since this started.
well while we were at the card show she asked me for some money. i gave her 10 bucks figuring she was going to spend it on barbie cards or something. she dragged me over to the table where they were selling card supplies. she bought a binder 2 plastic 100ct cases and a few pages. i told her to only get a couple because i have a ton of them. she then carried the bag herself the whole time. when we got home she took her bag to her room and didnt say any more about it. well this evening she came out and showed me the book she had put together.
it was amazing, all the football ones were together, the same for the hockey and the baseball. the ones from the same sets were next to eachother. she had really spent alot of time doing this. she even showed me the box she had kept them in until she got the book. at the very back of the book were about 6 empty pages. so i asked her why they were there and she promptly told me they were for her nascar cards that i was going to give her for her good reportcard.
i was pretty much floored. so we spent a good part of this evening trying to pick out a driver or 2 she would like to collect. turns out she wants to collect Mikey, mostly because i brainwashed her thoroughly, and Dale Jr.
all in all it was alot of fun, and now i have one more person to collect with. just hop that puppydog look doesnt talk me out of all m cards..
just felt like sharing, thanks for reading

Brendan, that is really cool...I have a 5 yr old son and an 8 yr old daughter, my son is into cards but my daughter would rather do other things..
My son is into Nascar so I went through my boxes and gave him a bunch of cards and put them in a box for him...
I would also be willing to send some card to you for her if she would get into any other sport..I might even have some cards of Mikey I could send for her..Thanks EdI only trade by Beckett price guide, not eBay comp or SV, TV..I also do not collect any Panini or Donruss Baseball products..

Hey Brendan,
I know the other day you told me you were planning to sit down with her and work on this together, but that sure is cool that she showed you how much she is excited about collecting to take it upon herself to do that and make daddy proud!!! That is very sweet and it looks like you're going to have some real collecting competition.
That should make for some awesome quality time together!!!
Have a BLAST and enjoy your newest collecting partner buddy!!!

I figured i would start her with some football and basketball base cards from the 90's because i figured they would end up in the toybox or in her little brothers hands. but im glad i was wrong. my wife and i decided to use the cards to reward her for being good. the teacher sends home a little report twice a week to tell us how she is doing. so if they are good she gets more cards. that sort of thing.i have about 800 different doubles of mikey so that should keep us busy for a while. i do appreciate you guys offering to send some to her. but im gonna hold off on that til i get to show her a bit more and see what direction she wants to go.

Shes gotten pretty lucky on the sporting events. Her first nascar race was the next to last Busch race at Nazareth speedway. she was a little young but she loved watching the cars go by. plus i live about 30 mins from Binghamton NY so we get up there to see the Philly farm teams whoop on the Mets and Sens. Thats alot of fun, my lil guy will be going to a few ball games too this year. gotta start him young. I fear my kids are going to fall victim to the same sports indoctorination that i was subject to. "Overexposure and Heckling for rooting for the other team:....lol
ok maybe il leave the heckling out til they're a little older.
