When i worked in northern virginia doing factory work, I worked with a lot of hispanic people that would pretend to not understand english in order to get out of work, having to learn to do other jobs, etc and they were paid just as much as i was. But you let someone start cussing them or around them and they understood mighty fast exactly what was being said. I learned just enough Spanish from a buddy of mine to know when they was swearing at me and just enough German to cuss them a blue streak and they had no idea what i was saying.

Here's my take (For what it's worth). The immigartion problem isn't going away anytime soon. The illegal immigrants are going to continue to cross the borders as long as companies, businesses, etc. continue to hire them. That definitely is a concern but to me that isn't the main problem. The main problem lies within the businesses that hire the illegal immigrants to do their work. The illegals will work for less than minimum wage whereas any knowledgable American wouldn't even think twice about. It's all about the money and profits that businesses can make. So they hire these illegals in order to make a larger profit but many times they (The businesses) aren't capable of supporting these types of employees in the form of language barriers, ethics, etc (Nor do they care to).
Now I hear many of you saying that if they can't learn the language then don't come to America. Well, that's easier said than done. The illegal immigrants are going to continue to cross the border searching for work as long as there is work offered to them. They aren't thinking about language barriers or the other types of problems that may arise. They just want to make more money than they EVER will in Mexico. It may sound like I am alright with this going on, but I am not. If any person comes into America the right and legal way well then I wish them the best of luck and welocome them with open arms. But to do it illegally just isn't right. Even most of those who do it legally have a hard time with speaking the language fluently. So as I stated before, the problem lies within the businesses who are just making a profit. They should be held accountable for hiring individuals who aren't qualified to do the work, no matter what the reason may be!!!! Whoever hired the illegals in this particular case should be fired for hiring incompetent people. If these people can't spek English now then they definitely couldn't have spoke a word of it during their interviews!!! That right there is reason enough not to hire them, because how would they be able to do the job correctly without being able to speak or understand English?!?! I hope this Salvation Army gets sued big time because along with that I can almost guarantee you that there will be other wrongdoings found as far as paying these illegals less than minimum wage among other things. Only when businesses stop taking advantage of the illegal immigrants willingness to work for less money will this problem begin to be solved.

Sean: How the heck do you think our great country got started, FROM PEOPLE COMING HERE AND MAKING IT HOME!!!! AND THEY ALL DIDN"T SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE !!!!!!!
And who said anything about having to go to a different country to work, what if you worked for a Japanese company that had a factory or office in the United States, and they told you that if you worked for them then you had to speak Japanese in the office, plant, etc, and when you didn't you were fired, YOU would do the exact same thing suing that company, would you not?
And don't go and say you wouldn't go to work for them, because if they offered you a heck of a lot more money than your making now, YOU KNOW YOU WOULD!!!!!!!

Ok and the country is out of whack now and needs some changes to be made...if we just keep letting people come in at free will the US will become completly overpopulated and no longer be a great country, but a poverty stricken one because too many people are here and not enough land to put them on/jobs to give them/resources to support them
That doesnt exist so how can you even argue it...no company in the US tells you you must speak another language then our native language...our native language is English...but to address your comment just role playing if it happened which no chance it ever will in our country...I would learn the language of the place I was working at to actually understand what was going on there...hey if someones gonna pay me triple digit income+ I'll learn any language you want me too...but the fact of the matter is Im gonna know how to communicate with who I work work/with not stare at you with a complete emotionless look on your face because they have no idea what something means. Call it arrogant, call it ignorant, call it what you want...but and as someone said before me, (i think it was bobby) the problem doesn't stop until the places of employement stop paying those who apply...and that doesn't stop until we either have laws into place of imigration or stricter work laws.

Sean,
I can tell you working at TOYOTA a lot of time the Japanese know very little ENGLISH as if I could speak the language I would be a interpreter (EASY MONEY) LOL.
I can't tell you the how many times (HUNDREDS) that I seen the Japanese trainers etc. who spoke very little ENGLISH try to teach us how to do things. It gets basic but you make do as it pretty easy to point at this or that and just follow what they are doing LOL.
Also, some only come for a short period of time so why should they learn our lanaguage. Just like many of our Upper Management go over there and I would bet that few of them learn the language.
As Bobby and other said WHY HIRE THEM!!!! That elminates the whole problem if you don't hire them. OH WELL we shall see where this case leads when a VERDICT is decided.
