we all agree that beckett is a thieving bag of crap that toadies to the card companys, and they have some serious conflict of interests issues.
the best thing that has happened in the last 20 years is that card buying and selling has been taking out of the dealers hands for the most part. we serious collectors had been at the mercy of the dealers, but not any more. of course now we have to put up with the wannabe dealers that open packs and are just in it for the money. note how many "24 hour, i will take the best offer, guaranteed" deals are on here now. i saw one go for 3 days. if i wanna buy, i'll go to ebay, too many scammers around.
guess thats about enough of me ranting.

The hobby has definitely become $$$ driven over the past 10 years.
Anytime you have only two competitors (in this case, Topps & Upper Deck) in this industry or any other industry, there is little incentive to try to improve on pricing, especially for the kids. Most kids don't have 4.00 or 5.00 to buy a pack containing a few premium cards.
Collecting should always be a personal pursuit, regardless of what's happening in the marketplace. If have cards worth $15.00 that I would sell to the highest bidder. On the other hand, I have cards worth 15 cents that I would never get rid of.
