Tone has headed into tailgating area at this point so everything is closed. Don't bother trying to PM him now and get into it.

The reason for the max is to allow as many participants as possible. This keeps it from being advantageous to someone with a huge amount of card cash from dominating the board. Also, the intent is to also allow new members who would like to bolster their cc to have a chance. This is merely for fun and should stay that way.
