War with Iran coming?
We all know Israel is NOT going to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. It is unfair for the US or anyone to tell Israel to wait for their 9-11, which will be a nuke going off in Israel.
If you followed the news recently where General Petraeus, the senior General in Iraq, stated that Iran is responsible for killing 100s of US soldiers.
Iran, Petraeus told the Senate Armed Services Committee, has "fueled the recent violence in a particularly damaging way through its lethal support of the special groups."Is anyone happy with Iran training terrorists in their country then sending them into Iraq to kill US soldiers? The #1 general in Iraq stats that 100s of soldiers have been killed in this way.
These "special groups" are "funded, trained, armed and directed by Iran's Quds Force with help from Lebanese Hezbollah. It was these groups that launched Iranian rockets and mortar rounds at Iraq's seat of government (the Green Zone) ... causing loss of innocent life and fear in the capital."
Is the Iranian government aware of this – and behind it?
"President Ahmadinejad and other Iranian leaders" promised to end their "support for the special groups," said the general, but the "nefarious activities of the Quds force have continued."
Are Iranians then murdering Americans, asked Joe Lieberman:
"Is it fair to say that the Iranian-backed special groups in Iraq are responsible for the murder of hundreds of American soldiers and thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians?"
"It certainly is. ... That is correct," said Petraeus.
The following day, Petraeus told the House Armed Services Committee, "Unchecked, the 'special groups' pose the greatest long-term threat to the viability of a democratic Iraq."
Translation: The United States is now fighting the proxies of Iran for the future of Iraq.

something needs to be done for sure, but I don't know if sending more of our troops out, to fight another war, is the answer yet. on the flip side, we'll be in 3 straight countries, so resources wouldnt be too far out

The administration is definitely pushing for it, and Iran is certainly taunting us with their nuke program and killing our people over there. From what I've read, there may be enough of a movement from within Iran against the current regime to maybe work on supporting some sort of change from within. That would be the best way IMO. If we do go to war - I hope we are way more aggressive than we were in Iraq...

U.S. or Israel is not going to go to war with Iran. Iran isn no Iraq. Its not going to be a cakewalk into Tehran like Baghdad was.

I think you would find very few people "happy" with any loss of life. We have interests in Iraq and Iran has their own interests in Iraq. I wouldn't be too happy if Russia invaded Canada and Mexico and started eyeing the U.S. Iran is feeling very cornered right now.

We are not on the list of states that sponsor terrorism or have UN sanctions levied on us . :)
I say "happy" because Americans are more concerned on who will win American Idol or what will happen on the next episode of Lost than what is happening to our troops in Iraq. Every two years during election time Americans act like they are concerned, but they really aren't. Did you know we have a Medal of Honor awarded by the President to Navy SEAL yesterday? He jumped on a grenade to save two other NAVY SEALs. The news mentioned it, but mentioned sports, entertainment and other worthless news much more.
When a man gave his life for his country 50 years ago it meant something. When a Medal of Honor was awarded it was front page news and people talked about it for weeks. Today it makes page 10 of your local newspaper if mentioned at all.

Mike, I obviously agree with you. We are not on the state sponsor list, that is why I didn't compare the U.S. with Iran. However, if we were put in the same position as them, we would look out for our own interests too. I'm sure we would send teams into Mexico or Canada to disrupt the enemy as much as we could. I try to look at both sides of the argument.
I highly doubt Iran is training people to kill U.S. soldiers just for fun. Also remember Iran is mostly a Shiite population and in Iraq I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) they are the minority.
During the 1980s Iran and Iraq were engaged in a long, bloody conflict. We were allies with Iraq (insert photo of Rumsfield shaking Saddam's hand). We had interests in the region, strategic or political, and we intervened to fulfill our interests. As a result, thousands of Iranians were killed by U.S. supplied weapons. This war is far too often overlooked.

Yeah, unfortunately all of our "heroes" are on the big screen these days. We don't have memorable generals or war heroes and I suppose the media is partially to thank for that. I don't watch the news very often anymore. Too much crap on the airways. But I did not know a MOH was awarded recently. Did he survive the grenade blast?

Read this again:
"Is it fair to say that the Iranian-backed special groups in Iraq are responsible for the murder of hundreds of American soldiers and thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians?"I have also heard Joe Lieberman state that he has seen intelligence showing three Iranian training camps used to train the Shi'ites in Iraq. These guys then go into Iraq and have two goals in mind; kill American soldiers and Iraqi civilians. There is absolutely ZERO doubt that the Iranians are training people to kill our soldiers. Take a few minutes to do some research on Google and you will see a lot of reporting.
"It certainly is. ... That is correct," said Petraeus.

I'm glad I'm not the President, I would start launching ICBM's at Iranian targets and dare China or Russia (or France for that matter) to do something. It's getting to the point where we either have to commit all the way or back out all the way IMO...

As a Disabled Veteran and fellow soldier I would say we need to handle business, all though I do know as soon as we make a move everyone will blame us, as is usually the case. Daniel.

Its hard for me to believe some of the intelligence that comes out under the Bush administration. They have failed us too many times and the cost has been thousands of lost and wounded U.S. soldiers. I will slightly contradict myself when I say that I agree with the intelligence that Iran is activiely involved in killing American soldiers. But, I do not believe they are intentionally killing civilians. Its called casulaties of war. Thousands of Iraqi civilians have been killed by our weapons since the Iraq invasion. In the eyes of much of the world, we are murderers. But we view that as casualties of war.

The new intelligence estimate concludes with “high confidence” that Iran halted work on its nuclear weapons program in 2003.
There are many other articles on the left worth reading as well. That shows our intelligence is not always accurate.
