Thanks everyone.....sorta
Yes there are some great people on this site. But there are also people who scour the site trying to get only the "best deal." I had to sell all of my cards per my wife. I tried for a few weeks and now I am sick of it. No one wants anything unless they can spend 20 bucks on 500.00 worth of cards. I'm done collecting, I'm done trading, and I'm done selling. My wife gets my cards and she can do what she wants with them. To tell you the truth I really don't care if she just trashes them. In my opinion when people disrespect you enough to say "Hey I'll give you five bucks for that 100.00 auto, she's gonna throw them away anyway." I'd rather it go in the trash than give it to someone who is trying to take advantage of the situation.
To everyone that treated me good, and respected my situation. THANK YOU
To everyone that thought they could screw me out of my cards. "!?%$@#"
I am deleting the bookmarks for everything that has to do with cards and I am completely done with this hobby.
Thank you and Goodbye

Hey, be easy here. Not once in our Pm communication did I offer $20 for $500 worth. I just didn't want to pay $85 for $300 worth, some of the stuff I just wanted for trade bait. Most of which is Alex Smith, who I do like, but his stuff is definitely on the down as far as demand right now, which is why people aren't offering as much on it.
I was going to counter for a smaller part of that lot, and give you what I feel is fair on both sides, but hey, there's a lot of other collectors on here selling, so I'd be happy to give them some of my paychecks.
Sincerely
Joe

Sorry to hear about your troubles man. Unfortunately this is happening more and more. But it's just a reflection of society...people aren't considerate, respectful, and willing to help out their fellow man anymore, they just care about themselves and are trying to make a quick buck. And this "hobby" is more of a business now, which is a shame too.
I do look for good deals, but fair deals. I have next to nothing to spend on cards, so I try to maximize my spending. That being said $85 for $300 BV is a great deal in my opinion...most people would be asking $120-150. If I had the money, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Anything decent at or under 33% of BV is a good deal.

I hope nobody takes me the wrong way, but I'm gonna offer my opinion...
Anytime you sell something or buy something, a business transaction is occurring. Buyers are searching for the best price, and sellers are trying to maximize their sale price. It's a delicate balancing act. Supply & Demand rules the world. Just because Beckett or Tuff Stuff or anybody says a piece of cardboard is worth X dollars, doesn't mean it will sell for X dollars. Obviously these are just reference guides, and to me are similar to a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. Why does a NM Walter Payton rookie card book for 250, but sell for closer to 500? Same reason a NM Eddie Payton rookie card books for 50 cents...supply & demand. This stuff is elementary. Only rich people or kids spending their parents money aren't going to search for the best price! Better yet, only fools aren't going to "scour the site" or eBay looking for the best offer. To me, that's what makes this hobby fun! I'm not talking about being lowballed, i'm just talking about looking for a great deal!
Look at some of the cards on eBay express where the seller wants full book value or close to it...they just sit there, forever, prices unchanged. Then look at all the threads here of excited people who just got a "steal" and want to show it off.
I think people get mad cuz they drop 100+ bucks on a box of cards that comes with 3 cards per pack & they pull absolutely nothing. Then they're lucky if they can recoup even half of their investment. There's too many "hits" out there. I mean, seriously....who really wants an autographed rookie of a guy who didn't even make the practice squad? Unless you went to school with the guy or something...
But I don't collect all that Certified Autograph Chrome Refractor Triple 8 color patch crap anyway, so nobody has to worry about me hurting their feelings with a low offer. Nowadays, they print the same card with different color borders & numbered at different levels to make them more valuable...I'd take a Montana or Payton rookie anyday over an AP autograph. Guy could break his collarbone one more time & be the next charles rogers...OK, I'm exagerating, but does anybody smell me???

I smell you. I too would rather have a Payton, Bradshaw, or Mean Joe rookie. I don't like these cards too much, however, my wife likes this "new" stuff, sh'e really into the 2006 Donruss Classics. I'd rather build a set like I did when I was a kid in the 70's, but I would probably pay for an Otto Graham, Unitas, Sid Luckman jersey or autograph card, but not some rookie I never even heard of and who probably won't make the team. Look at Vince Young as an example, after he was darfted his autograph cards were high dollar, but after two seasons he's not a good QB.

I agree 100% with the capitalistic, free market approach you're talking about Red....in the trading card hobby and in the world economy. If I can find a better deal somewhere else, then I'm going somewhere else.
But it does get very frustrating that people have turned this hobby into a cut-throat business. In my mind, a hobby is supposed to be about relaxing and enjoying yourself, not making a buck...but I guess that's what people enjoy more than anything else these days, money. And I used to expect, somewhat naively I guess, that people in this hobby were willing to help each other out and try to enjoy it together. There are some people like that still and several on this site, but a lot are just trying to enjoy it for themselves and do nothing to try to make it better for others too.
And I definitely understand people trying to find a good deal, but you can't tell me you wouldn't get frustrated if you have a Walter Payton RC for sale and people keep coming to you offering $50...

My 2 cents....
BV doesn't mean a thing.... A card "ANY CARD" is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you get the right person you MAY get 75% of the "BV", but most people spending cash are pushing themselves to give up 40% of what "BECKETT" says its worth. Lets face it... Buying a Car, Buying a House, or Buying a Card... its only worth what the person purchasing it thinks its worth.
Please don't be offended.. just refuse the offer if you think its not fair. It's not personal.. its business, and right now, business isn't very good!
OK, more like a dime's worth, but hey... its only worth what you think its worth.. RIGHT?

OK I love what some of you said. People take this stuff WAY TOO SERIOUS! You get mad if someone is willing to pay you for a chuck of cardboard that is no different than the side of a cereal box. Then we have these threads pop up. I'm mad or some people need to think before coming at me with offers. Well if you would have just said up front I want X amount of $$ for my card. This would stem some of the "lowball" offers. But to be clear not everyone here has $200 to throw away on cardboard so please get over it.
If this was in person like at a cardshow would you truely yell at a 15 yr old because he offered you $75 for a $300 autograph? Lighten up people. This is what you make of it.
