    Baron Davis opts out

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Golden State point guard Baron Davis elected to become a free agent Monday night, opting out of the final year of his contract with the Warriors in a surprise move.

Davis had until Monday night to decide whether to turn down his $17.8 million contract for next season, the final year of a six-year deal. The Warriors didn't expect him to opt out of the deal despite little progress in the parties' long-term contract negotiation, but club spokesman Raymond Ridder said they received a letter from Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, late Monday indicating his intentions.

I'm actually surprised because I've always believed that the Warriors would buy out Baron's contract. I've always admired B-Diddy's professionalism and talents (well, except that Hornets disaster) so a team would be getting a veteran leader and one of the top 5 point guards in the league.

I didnt see this coming. Since he probably wont go to a horrible team for max money, I can see him signing with a good team for one yr for the mid level exception. Then he can get more money next season. I would love for him to come to the Lakers, but I dont see that happening. I think the Heat and Cavs will do everything in their power to get him.

I heard this too. I really really really hope they don't do something this stupid. And I like Davis.

NOOOOOOO!!!!! I am ticked! Who is going to replace him? Monte is a scorer. I have SERIOUS doubts he can be a point guard. In Nellie's system with all of the ball movement they may be ok but this is a sad day for Warriors fans.

Oh God....please come to Cleveland. Danny Ferry, do everything in your power to get BDiddy in a Cavs uniform. Sign and trade Gibson, move Varejao, whatever. Just get to the point where we have enough money to get this guy!
