That's one of the reasons, but the "back-and-forth, am I retired, am I not retired, yes I am, thanks Houston for the two years, oh wait I'm not retired, hello Yankees again" tarnishes him in my book. Even Mike lost some respect from me when he went back to the game after the baseball debacle and then signing with the Wizards.
And you may say that he won't go anywhere else to play. But you know how competitive he is, and if he decides to come back and the Packers say, "no way, we've moved on" what do you think he's going to do? Go home and sulk? He's going to find a team willing to take him on (and there are a LOT of teams that would) and go play for them.
At least, that's what I think.

there's a big difference between playing, and playing for the packers.....i dont think there is any chance he'd come back just to play - only way he'd play is for the pack (and i dont even think the pack would release him, lol)
as for the other guys, little things like you mentioned dont tarnish a legacy.....is mike the best ever, yeah (reguardless of his baseball or wizzard days).....before the steroids stuff, clemens was highly reguarded as one of the greatest pitchers EVER (reguardless of where he played, if he played 1/2 seasons, didn't travel, etc).....this stuff might effect someone in the short-term, but in the long run (a persons legacy) it really has no effect

WOW, after some of those remarks, now i want him to come back just to show he doesn't have to listen to anyone except himself.
monkey is right, he is "BRETT FREAKIN FAVRE", and he is entitled to do what he wants.
and pack9001 has an interesting thought.
but this is all moot until brett says something. neat word "moot" isn't it?

Like I said, their on-the-field/court legends aren't tarnished. I never said that I didn't think MJ isn't the greatest that ever played because in my mind he is. And Clemens is one of the greatest pitchers ever and someone I idolized when I pitched in high school (him and Ryan). Favre is a top 5 QB. What I'm talking about is the public persona not from the media (because we all know how the media idolizes certain players), but normal guys/girls sitting in a bar watching sports when another "is Clemens going to play" or "is Favre going to play" story comes on and everybody throws up their hands in disgust because we have to sit through another non-story about it. I am a Favre fan and have been since he played at Southern Miss. My username might be falcons9001 if he had never been traded. My main point is that I will lose a bit of respect for him if he comes back, just like I did with Mike, just like I did with Clemens. If he really wanted to play, why not say that at the end of the season? Why do we have to sit through another offseason (the 4th if I recall correctly) of "is Favre going to play" stories when he already said he wasn't?
As a Favre fan, I'M tired of hearing about him in the offseason.
Whew - ok, I'm spent. :)

I think if he wants to play...go for it. Sucks for Rodgers, but I doubt very many Packers fans will be complaining.

Come on back Brett! Break a couple more records maybe win another SuperBowl 12.5 million a year isn't a bad reason either.
I stopped my Directv NFL Ticket from renewing...I'll have to fix that.
Nothing will tarnish his record, this will be just another crazy chapter. If he took this year off and then tried to come back that might be weird or if he is a Raider that'd be weird. Brett coming back for another season...thats normal even with all the retirement stuff.

Yeah Baby!

if i was brett i would just go up to the media and tell them all to shut up because it's not favre spreading these rumors around..media is doing this to favre for a reason i don't know..they just need to stop and let him go on with life

I think he shouldn't come back and do what Michael Jordan did. I respect Jordan from the bottom of my heart but, when you are retired you are retired, keep it that way. Jordan came back what? twice?...thats ridiculous. I just don't want to see Brett have a bad season and bring his ratings down...he finished the season as one of the best seasons he ever had, KEEP IT THAT WAY!!! I would want to at least :D
