Shaun Alexander?
Why has no one signed Alexander? I know he's a shadow of his former self, but I don't see how he can't be good enough to make any team want him. I read that seven teams have apparently contacted him (didn't say who), but it's 2 weeks before Go Time....At the very least, I would think someone would pick him up to upgrade their #2 spot, like St. Louis, Arizona, Cleveland, Buffalo, or Detroit. Is he really not better than Antonio Pittman, Tim Hightower or JJ Arrington, Jason Wright, Fred Jackson, or Tatum Bell? Or what about Houston? They have a stable of backs who all have question marks of either injuries or new to the league. I just can't see him being of no use to anybody...at least give him a shot in camp to show what he's got. What does everybody else think?

I think there are 2 parts to this, desire and money. Shaun Alexander lacks desire and you can see it in the way he runs the last season or two. Second, I think he wants too much money for teams to give him a shot.

I can see the money...nobody wants to pay too much for a backup. At this point, though, you'd think he would realize he's not in very high demand and lower his price a little...

I dont think he wants to be a backup. He still thinks he can carry the #1 position.

True...but would pride keep you from getting paid? If he is that proud, he's extremely stubborn. At some point, you have to realize it's either #2 or smaller part of sharing or you don't get paid. And if he sits out a year, there's no way he's coming back as a #1 back. The only reasoning I could see as to why he would rather not play than be #2 is if he's banking on one of the #1 guys getting hurt and stepping in at that point...but I don't think that's a good bet.
But from what I've heard so far, it seems most people think it's not his talent that is keeping him from being signed, it's more the role he wants to play vs. the roles he is being offered.

I think part of it is his talent as well. What I remember from his last 2 seasons is that he looked slow, couldn't break tackles, and overall play was lackluster. That's what teams remember in this what have you done for me lately league.

Thats why he is sitting at home watching the preseason with Daunte Culpepper. $MONEY$ In their own minds they think they still have the giddyup.

Didn't he sign with someone a while back?

Well I guess the talent and the money go hand in hand. He thinks his talent is at a certain value and the teams think it's at a lower value. But what I meant was he has the talent to be on an NFL team, he just doesn't think he would be getting enough money.

He's unsigned as of today. Apparently there have been many teams talking to him, but nothing signed on the dotted line yet.

Personally, I think Travis Henry would be a better pickup for anyone.
