Gigueir was the reason they got to the finals. If it wasn't for him the ducks would have been the ones swept by the wings. Give JS his props, his mom isn't doing well and that could have easily distracted him, and made him preform averagely

    redlegs2144:

i think mario is going to retire. he came out and said they only team he would play for next year is the penguins. plus i dont think he wants to be a part of the pens rebuilding process (they are gonna be sooooooo bad next year). but im kind of excited for the rebuilding process. hopefully they can do a good job of drafting and the pens will have an exciting team once again.

    ILUVSPORTSCARDS:

i will admit that i did go a little too far describing the devils fans. it was hypocritical of me. i was just extremely pissed off because i'm not a big devils fan, and i really felt giguere deserved better treatment. if i was i devils fan i think i'd rather have the stanley cup than the conn smythe. i do apologize for stereotyping new jersey people like that...but you gotta admit...what they did to giguere was wrong

Yes, I do agree what was done was wrong. Without Giguere, the Ducks wouldn't have made as far as they do. Thank for apoligizing as most of the people in New Jersey are actually very accomadating to out of towners. I was disappointed that some fans boo'ed. Others though did cheer.

The fans of any team would have booed the opposing team's player for winning the MVP award. If you honestly, really and truly don't think that that's true, then you probably also think it's ok to drive 55 in the left lane of a 4-lane highway because it's the speed limit.

I said to my gal right before they made the announcement, "wait until you hear the boos when they name Giguere the MVP", and sure enough it happened. They have every right to believe that their guy is just as valuable to the Devils. Sometimes you just have to think a bit to see the rationale ... I'm not saying that J.S. didn't deserve it, but 7 shutouts by Brodeur? How about the fact that it was a record total, and that to a man the Devils know that they can play the way they do without pressure to score 4 goals a game because they don't need that many. There are intangibles to that you just don't understand if you've never played a team sport, and if you have and still don't get it, then shame on you. Knowing that someone with a lifetime GAA of 2 in the playoffs is back there makes you very relaxed when playing, which elevates the team performance overall. In game 7, when the Devils got their first goal, I said if they get one more, it's over. Imagine what the confidence translates to as a player! Just because everyone has come to expect it year after year after year, doesnt' mean it's not MVP-type stuff.

On a lighter note, I did feel he deserved it (the Conn Smythe) and I don't think that he should have been boo'ed. Yes it was wrong, but to say what you said about people from New Jersey is just plan wrong. Others were clapping too, so instead of mentioning the good ones as well, we only talk about the bad ones.

That was very hypocritical. I'm a Devils fan and from NJ and I have class....
