Our third party candidates get no love, sadly. At least we have the freedom to vote for them, even if it won't matter in the overall results. We don't have to be forced to pick either McCain or Obama; no vote, or a vote for someone else, can take that place.

OF COURSE this is about race!
Her book is about race & politics in a new age, an age where a black man can get closer to the white house ever before. If Obama were huge conservative and this close to the white house she'd still be writing this book. As she should be, she's a unique position as one of the leading black journalists in the country witnessing history.
As for the debate, isn't she just reading questions and timing the thing?
I'm really not sure how she can influence the debate.

have you ever watched a debate? Everything from when to allow an interuption to when to allow extra time. There are a ton of ways that she can influence the outcome.
Even those in the media who think it is no big deal are still saying they can see why it is a conflict of interest.

Okay here is my take, Its wrong to have a person writing a book about one of the canidates do moderate this debate. Not only is it a conflict of interest, one side will use this to bash the other side. If she does anything and I mean anything wrong the rep. will use this to their advantage . Its actually a bad Idea for the Dem's to have her moderate for this reason. Mike, I agree that she should not moderate for the reasons stated above, but not because she will slant it for the Dems.
Just like the Obama supporters cannot see any of his flaws, there are several McCain supporters in the same boat. I prefer to take a step back and veiw things in an unbiased manner. I will not vote for Obama for a few key issues( I am catholic), but this doesnt mean I support McCain.
I hope I live to see the day a third party emerges and gives americans another choice because the two parties we have right now are not cutting it

I know sarcasm isn't allowed on here so I'll take your question literally... yes I have seen a debate. I am not being sarcastic when I say that she should say at the outset "I am writing a book about obama."
I think that's a practical way to address this stuff.
Also - if this is such an issue why did Palin agree to do the debate with this moderator?

From an Unbiased Opinion this is bad for Democrats, cause no matter how Biden does Republicans can say it was Fixed cause of the Pro Obama Moderator............

Let me preface by saying that I am not an Obama Supporter and am a Republican. Okay so the choice of the moderator is slightly unfair. Even if she's professional, there is a possibility that she COULD be bias. There COULD have been a better choice. But with that said, I think Palin would've bombed any debate anyway no matter who the moderator is. Have anyone seen that interview with Couric? Really horrible. To think that she can be president one day is very scary to me. =|
But maybe Biden will somehow put his foot in his mouth like he has done now and then, and Palin's "cuteness" will pull her through. Ugh.

Thanks for the good response! Good inputs and I agree it could actually be bad for Dems.

Another good response! This is my main point. There are thousands of people that could moderate this. Why in the world would they choose someone that has an obvious conflict of interest? Aren't there plenty of other choices?
