Where is Michael Anthony at?
Not even in the top 100
I'm sorry, but how is Paul McCartney tied for the lead? No post has mentioned his name, yet he's got 4 votes and tied for first.

I was thinking the same thing. I have to chalk it up to people who are just diehard Beatles fans and maybe not necessarily musicians. It's tough for non-musicians to understand technicality and difficulty. For example, a female friend of mine who is a diehard Blind Melon fan and plays no musical instrument thinks that all the musicians from Blind Melon are the best in their field. Makes no sense but I think they vote that way because of the overall musical quality, not because of the actual "talent" of the musician as an individual.

I can understand that and I'd say that's definitely part of it. I'm not a musician and I'll admit that I overlook a lot of the finer details in music (especially in the base area, which is probably the most overlooked instrument...which is why I haven't voted), but I know enough to realize that most new music and musicians are pretty much crap. There are only a few really good ones and, as a result, it's pretty easy to know them when you hear them.
Another thought I had, everybody has heard the Beatles, but a lot of the other bands/musicians on this list aren't acts that everybody has heard, more of the niche stuff. So the default becomes to vote for the one that you've heard and actually know something about instead of just picking a random name or someone you've only heard a few times.

I say the majority here have no clue who to Roger Waters even is. BTW I do I really like his solo stuff, I have owned at least a dozen copies of Radio KAOS

Yeah, his solo stuff is very underrated. I haven't gotten into Radio KAOS as much (though I do own it), but Amused to Death and The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking are amazing.
I voted for Chris Squire since Waters isn't on the list though.
All I ask is that Steve Hackett be put on the list for guitarists, definitely the most underrated guitarist ever. He was one of the first guitarists to experiment with tapping (see Genesis' magnum opus Supper's Ready), contrary to the popular belief that it was Van Halen who did so.
Another artist who I believe should be on the guitarist list is Prince. He is often overshadowed by the more "poppish" songs, but he is an awesome guitarist. Anyone who doesn't believe me can watch this clip:
But I suppose I'll try to save some of the guitarist debate for that thread.

True that, but Waters is probably one of the greatest song writers.

Paul McCartney (The Beatles)????
Maybe his votes are people hoping he can do a little singing on the side with Elvis

Waters wasn't in the top 100 on the DDD list either, but how would anyone who "knows" music not know who Roger Waters is...he's one of the founding and most influential members of one of the greatest bands of all time.

Not sure if Hackett will make the cut, he's 55 on the rock guitarists list and 134 on the all genres list. Prince is 72 on the rock list and didn't make the top 200 in the all genres., so he probably won't, although I will give props, the guy has skills.

That's a good thought, maybe so!
