Pasqua, like Ron Kittle was another guy who at least made it and had something of a respectable career though never reaching their hobby elite status that was projected for them.
Then there was Hensley Meulens....

For basketball -
* the Shaq-mania in 1992-93 - helped put the basketball hobby on the map since Jordan RCs were so hard to come by
* the endless debates on whether Kobe would live up to the hype and be a Hall of Famer (he has)
* Vinsanity - Vince Carter mania in 2000 (his SP Authentic rookie booked $1,000 at its height; people thought he would be "the next Jordan" - nice career but nowhere near even Kobe's, and I know that Authentic RC has gone way, way down in price)
* when some people invested in Jason "White Chocolate" Williams because they really thought he was going to be the next Pistol Pete (I made a killing on a gold parallel Ovation rookie of his)
* the incredible value of GU cards in the late '90s and early '00s - even scrubs were worth $20 (I'm sure this trend was in other sports as well, but thought I'd include it in this section anyway)
* the now-legendary failed potential of Darius Miles, Kwame Brown, and Darko Milicic - we really thought these guys would make a significant impact on the league

This brings back some memories of chasing that "money" card. I had forgotten about a lot of the names you guys are mentioning.

Don't forget the Score Bo Jackson FB/BB card. Man, that card seemed so out of reach at one time :)

may be sad but this is my favorite moment I ever saw. You know his team mates ripped him for getting killed by a old man
This is the card that got me bigtime into collecting :D
