    New collector

So I think I am going to take a back seat to my collecting of baseball cards and start collecting basketball cards. I collected them some 15 years ago and got rid of them. Currently I only own one basketball card. Any ideas of what ways to go, what boxes to get etc etc... I only have the options of the retail chains for blaster boxes.

Get bowman and topps chrome blasters if you are going to buy blasters(I would not if I were you) as I have seen some nice stuff come out of them. If you want to buy sealed hobby boxes on the net, go to dacardworld.com. The have the best prices and free shipping over $50 spent.

Welcome. I agree with DrTom. The blasters and retail boxes have less hits in them. If you have the option of buying online, that is probably the way to go. I still haven't found a card shop anywhere that could beat online prices unless the shop is just trying to make room for new inventory. Write more about yourself and what you like to collect (mfr, team, player collector etc...). Lots of members here with hobby knowledge.

if your looking for blasters, Topps Treasury has probably been the best blaster of 08-09 IMO. MANY people are pulling autos and Rip cards out of them. somebody even pulled a dual auto with Magic Johnson out of one of those treasury blasters. thanx

What retail boxes to get depends on what kind of cards you are looking for. If you are into inserts, try this year's Upper Deck. They have starquest inserts and those bulls/lakers/celtics dynasty inserts as well as some rcs. If you like parallels, refractors, chromes, Topps chrome, treasury, and bowman are all good choices. If you're not too into prospects or 1st 2nd year players stay away from bowman.

Just curious. What is the ONE basketball card that you own right now?

i own a hoops rc of shaq. found it a baseball card box i had in the closet. not sure what really i like. i would want something that i can use for trade bait. game used and autoed probably. i want to actually take this approach a little bit better than my baseball collecting. with my baseball collection i really do not have anything that people are looking for.

I'm more interested in the one Basketball card you have. What is it?

If you want some nice tradebait, Gu, auto's. Blasters won't really give them to you. Your best bet is to start on eBay if possible and pick up singles or buy a bulk lot of GU/auto's.

If you really have no choice other than retail, then some Targets have these 5.99 repacks of 2 basketball packs with a guaranteed auto. The autos are of pretty scrubby people but at least you might get some trade bait. But either way, if you have to buy blasters, you'll end up with lots of base and inserts.
