Help Understanding BGS (Beckett) Grading ... Look inside ...
Hi Guys ...
I'm trying to understand Beckett's grading rules when it comes to summing up the sub-grades and then issuing the final card grade ...
I have one card that is a Gem Mint 9.5 and then a Mint 9 ...
Here are the Subgrades ...
#1 ... Gem Mint 9.5 Card
Centering -- 9.5
Edges -- 9.5
Corners -- 9.5
Surface -- 9
#2 ... Mint 9 Card
Centering -- 10
Edges -- 9.5
Corners -- 9.5
Surface -- 8.5
The Gem Mint 9.5 Card averages out to 9.375
The Mint 9 Card averages out to 9.375 as well ...
So, Does an 8.5 or lower subgrade automatically keep it from Gem Mint status... even if the other subs are extremely high?
Just trying to understand the logic behind the grades ...
Thanks,
TIM

The card is not going to grade any higher than .5 above its lowest subgrade.

Tim- According to Beckett, the subcategories are not all given equal weighting in determining the overall grade.
Always Looking for:
A) Graded Vintage (Pre-1980) (BGS, BVG, PSA, SGC) in all sports
B) Graded True RC's (No inserts or parallels) (BGS, PSA, SGC) in all sports
C) Certified Auto and GU cards of players from the 70's and further back in all sports
