Set collecting. Why doesn't anyone do it anymore?

I am in a dry spell right now with my sets and I am turning to the bay(which I hate to do). I was thinking though. Why don't people do this anymore? I am happy with it because it makes it easier for me to get cards. Any ideas?

who knows. i have been working with 10 sets or so since mid last year. i never finished any of them yet. most are 90's inserts though making it challenging. ill finish them in 500 years i guess.

I still love set collecting, although I am running out of space in my room to continue much longer. :) I'm still trying to complete three sets: 02-03 Fleer Box Score, 06-07 Turkey Red, and 08-09 UD MVP. I have over 70 completed sets overall, I think.

Yeah I love it but I tend to go for very difficult things like parrallels. It makes it hard and very expensive. Although ten times more enjoyable at the end.

To people it's too difficult or time-consuming, and they'd rather go for the Autos and GUs. I'm finding it harder to trade for set needs as the only things people want for their base and inserts are... GUs and Autos. Makes set collecting real frustrating.

Most of the good sets in recent years are rare and/or expensive, and those that aren't are not fun to collect.

I think that depends on what you consider good. I do think paralell sets are good, but they can be very expensive. Like right now, I am trying to decided if I want to buy the Rose bowman rookie refractor auto on ebay. I just can not do it, because I think he will go down significantly.

I used to collect when I had more funds. I used to build Chrome Refractor sets...just the base...challenging but not too difficult. Now I just try to build base sets minus rcs. I am working on 9 right now and have been to lazy to post the wantlist...if i did i could probably knock off a few.

also think base is fun, but do collect a rather rare set. 04-05 sp signature

i recently found sportlots.com and there i was able to find many singles i needed at very nice prices.

btw, my experience here is that people seldom respond to the set building threads or PM's send in regard to that. just no as an answer would do as well.

I´ve been collecting base sets since 2003, but you can buy them complete on ebay for cheap so it´s rare to actually do trades with these cards.
