    Which computer security software?

I have to update my security for the computer in about 2 weeks. I currently have Norton and I think it is taking up a lot of space on my computer and making it slower. I think I might get a different one and since I dont know much about these softwares, I wanted to ask people that know about them. I have ATT so I can get McAfee for free. Please help me out.

BTW I have a PC and still using XP

well personally i cant stand norton and would uninstall it and get the Mcafee from ATT. I have it through comcast and it is good stuff. very user friendly and not too processor intensive.

as far as a free solution if you dont have the option for mcafee later on, i'd suggest AVG free. it is also a great product.

I use AVG. Also do a virus scan, you may have something already on your computer that is slowing it down.

AVG is a great option for a free anti-virus. You can also schedule the scans for night when you are not on. McAfee is also a decent anti-virus program. If you are worried about memory usage and slowing down your computer you can just leave AVG on all of the time and keep McAfee for occasional virus scans. I would set McAfee to not run on startup and the just run the program once to a week or so to catch anything AVG may have missed. If you have any more questions feel free to send me a pm.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

For someone who is very tech savvy no im not trying to sound like a jerk but here it goes.

You don't really need anti-virus control, aslong as your not stupid you'll be fine. Anti-Viruses are viruses in themselves, thats why if you have 2 on at the same time your computer freezes because your computer detects the other as a virus so does the other and it's an overload.

But if you really need one

Get NOD32, updated against viruses/worms/adware/spyware/malicious cookies daily.

Also search CCcleaner and run it every few days, along with Malware antibites..

'll give you a run down real quick!

Nod32, like I said best out there atm I think it's 1 year for 30 bucks.
AVG- It's free..you get what you paid for...free. There internet security isn't bad though.
Mcafee- WORST anti virus out there, it's free for a reason with AT&T and Comcast, it blows. My mom had vundu.trojan and plenty of other trojans when I went to go upgrade her RAM and scan her computer. Mcafee got none of it.

If you don't have the money to buy an anti virus, one solution is keep getting 30 day free trials from nod32 on different emails.

Another is, download Malwarebites, it works magically although it doesn't stop ANY incoming viruses if you scan it will detect ANY malware which is a virus. http://malwarebytes.org/ <-- use the free trial

I'd suggest running that before downloading ANY anti-Virus because you know..some of them can't catch everything.

I could go on for ages, about antivirus, Hardware, software, Phishing, Cracking, etc...if you need anything PM me..

I have Kaspersky Anti-Virus running on my computer, runs real well. As for other programs, download CCleaner and run that once a week. Get a program like Spybot S&D, free program that finds almost all Spyware. There is a program out there called RemoveITPro that you could try first. It is a program that I used when I thought I had a Trojan and my anti-virus didn't find it. Ran that program and it found it. Other programs are SpywareBlaster and Lavasoft Ad-Aware. As long as you run the programs once a week, you will be fine.
