I liked it when there was only 3 sets of cards to be worried about.
I agree with all the economists about the supply. One way over the long term to reduce supply, is to reduce demand. It just takes a while for supply to catch up. If you dont like the results, stop buying what you've been buying.
I'm looking for 64 topps commons in excellent or better condition, btw.

Well i've been collecting for almost 20 years and i have seen the ups and downs to the hobby. There is nobody to blame but ourselves..If we all stop buying the high end products then they will stop making them. The only problem is people keep on buying the stuff. All Beckett does is price the cards by the demand of them.. Example. Nobody was an Arod RC or Bonds RC. They want the newer Rc's because they book so much higher. WHY? 90% of these bums will never be anything other than a bench warmer. But their RC's will book 10x the amount of a Bonds or Arod..All we have to do is make a stand and stop buying the high end products..This is suppose to be a hobby and now the card companies are starting to ruin it. From what 3 different sets that were available in the 80's and now there is 100+?

You are all crazy, This is this best cards have ever been! you are complaining that it is to easy to get a Actual piece of jersey from an nfl game? thats a piece of history. And beckett sets no standards. Example get on ebay and you will pay less than half of book value for most items, Exept the current hottest stars or 1 of 1's type stuff. Ebay is the most accurate price guide there is. Sure I am bumbed when I by a box and my GU is a $12 common. But boy its sure is fun opening the packs. I say open packs for fun and quit taking for granite what you really have in your hands when you hold a GU card.
Sorry to rant, I am really hung over and felt like ranting.

I don't think the companies are pissed because people still eat up the boxes or packs now for $100. So they really don't care if you open a $100 pack and get a Mike Stanley autograph because they already made a ton of money off of it.

I mean if you are sick of paying inflated prices for these "premium" boxes and packs and then the BV on them comes out and kills it, wouldn't you think most people would not buy the inflated stuff because it will not be worth the price you paid for the pack/box?
You'd think that people would stop buying the boxes and now expensive packs but it just keeps going up and people keep paying it.
I stopped buying boxes after 1999 because the value of them went downhill. Before you spent $50-$75 and got a ton of cards. Then they cut that down by 50% shoved in a piece of bat and charged 3 times as much.
Since then I have just bought card singles and have improved my collection like never before. Sure I still love to open up packs but for that I buy those varity boxes at Kmart and save a ton of money. And with the money I save I can buy cards that I actually want.
And I wouldn't really blame Beckett because they price the cards for what people are paying for them and right now and for the past couple of years people will pay a ton more to open up packs with the chance to get something "good" rather than buy a single card.
So if everyone is still buying the packs but nobody is buying the single cards then with supply and demand you have the packs soar and the singles bottom out to nothing.
The only way packs and boxes are going to be "built" better is if people stop buying sub par boxes and packs for outrageous prices.Selling all my cards here updated as of June------------> Hidden Content

the problems is the companies themselves...they put so many autos/gu in the box that they cant be worth anything---theres too many of them
I dont think its becketts fault
That's exactly it. And if we were to somehow boycott the "premium" sets then maybe the companies would realize that they are deflating the market value themselves. Up here in canada UD Premier hockey retails at almost $150 for a three card pack. The common auto books 15 and the common jersey books$12. So how do they justify the $150 price?

So true.
Back a couple years ago you could pull MULTIPLE good cards from a box and not even spend $100.
Now your limited to just 1 autograph or game used card and nothing else.

Yes. kinda makes me yearn for the old packs of cards with the gum in them. i can remember pulling a card of your favorite player and being so happy cuz he only had 2 or 3 for that season. Now it's come down too which of his 100+ cards( for this season) do i really wanna find.

I remember those days....when you could actually walk into a cardshop and name all the different brands on 1 hand.
Now each company has about 30 different brands that I don't even recognize.
Which is a shame because I think that lack of brand recognition has something to do with cards not having a high resale value.

I enjoy opening boxes but I never go for the explensive stuff unless I'm hoping to get something big (which I never do). So now I go back to the old stuff because the cards are so rare I'm paying so much less and if I pull a great card it makes it all worth while, but if I dont pull a great card i either make the set or trade them off. Its still fun. Now I sell cards for profit, but I also collect A-rod cards and HOFs. But if you dont like what you get in a box then dont buy it. Buy off ebay everything is cheap and go by those prices. Beckett is just trying to give everyone an idea of what people are willing to pay.
And I dont remember who said it but go to KMART. The small boxes are cheap and out of those little boxes for $9.99 i've pulled a rare wade boggs GU, A nolan Ryan GUed, A mark teixera Auto...All rare cards out of really cheap boxes...those are worth it!
