SP Authentic
All I have to say is wow. I have been looking at message boards from SCF, to blowoutcards, to beckett. All I notice that anyone is breaking is SP Authentic. 3 boxes... 5 boxes... One Case, it just seems crazy to me. Another thing I noticed is that the prices of these cards are going down considerably on eBay. The Stamkos FW Auto went for $100 on March 31st, however, it now sells for around $40.
I was just wondering, does this always happen with new releases of products? I have never really followed any product as close as I have this one. Also, does all of this craze slow down eventually? I have bought 2 boxes of this a while ago and still have not opened them. I am thinking about holding on to them until this product dies down a bit... if it ever will.

When a new card appear on e-bay, it usually goes for higher price. For example, I got an UD Black Pride of nation /10, at first it went for 260$, it stopped there. That was when the product came out. I got one for 60$, that's the 1/10.
But I saw two days ago which was $160 BIN. And it went.
It's really hard to say, because there are a lot of steals, but you can pay over for a card you need.
But that's true, until a few of a card is on e-bay, they goes higher price. The magic of the new thing :)

A Stamkos really went for $40!? I was checking the completed listings before and was shocked to see two go for around $55, and am still kicking myself for not being around to snag it. Otherwise they are still selling around $75. I'd still say it is too early to really have a huge drop off in prices, as the biggest I've seen is with the Mason's starting in the $90's and now dropping to the low $70's, but the product is still relatively new. Either way it always starts high, cuz that is when the people with money to waste get the cards they want on impulse, and then usually after 2 or 3 weeks things get reasonable.

Heres the trend Ive noticed recently. The hobby hard core folks go after the cards when they're new, then the deal takers go after a card. The bulk of the hobbyists, the ones who really set the prices, dont usually get in until at least a week after a product hits.
There's simply no way, for example, that the Mason is going to settle at $55 for ebay sales. Our experience with previous rookie goalies tells us that. The Price sells for 65-95 STILL, even with his 2nd year slump.

not sure what you're watching, but I've watched 2 Stamkos FW auctions close today, each in the $75 range. it's the economy, that's all, they'll recover eventually

I think if your patient the Mason card prices will come down. Even if he keeps up his play it not like he going keep winning hardware for six years in a row to keep his prices at the top. It just probability that his card prices will drop. If he is a pc collect away if he is not wait til you can get a better deal. That just my two cents.

He didn't say "come down".... he said "plummet".
Will they level off or decrease over the summer? Probably. No one knows for sure what will happen in the playoffs, but yeah, they'll likely level off at least.
But the word plummet reeks of attitude.

I think the key is to buy cards that retain value no matter what. Like the limited logos, NHL shield cards (even though impossible to get). It sucks to invest in these "hot" rookies, then the next year they are terrible. Like Stamkos would be a good guy to invest in to me personally. Just because he had a terrible year for his expectations. Look at who he plays with too. next year he could very well put up 100+ points, and his cards will sky rocket. Just gotta take the gains with the losses, and with a little bit of luck, might make money on your stuff.
