Ex-CIA chief: Obama risks national security

Ex-CIA chief: Obama risks national security

A former head of the CIA slammed President Obama on Sunday for releasing four Bush-era memos, saying the new president has compromised national security.

Michael Hayden, who served as former President Bush's last CIA director from 2006 to 2009, said releasing the memos outlining terror interrogation methods emboldened terrorist groups such as al Qaeda.

"What we have described for our enemies in the midst of a war are the outer limits that any American would ever go to in terms of interrogating an al Qaeda terrorist. That's very valuable information," Hayden said during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday."

I don't really think this is a major major deal, but I can see how that information can help the enemy. If they know what interrogation methods will be used if they're caught, they can prepare for them and they will know when there's no other methods available...basically they know if they make it past a certain point, there's nothing more that can be done.

I think what he is really upset about is that the memos apparently showed how many hundreds of times suspects were waterboarded under his watch and how the final conclusion of the reports was that waterboarding the suspects was unnecesary and didn't help to get any new information

Yeah I agree...this doesn't look good for anyone involved, so I'm sure they're pretty upset about that. But he does make a valid point that can't be discounted...

I haven't seen the exact content so I will have to give him the benefit of the doubt for now and agree with you on that

Logical argument. Kill them and be done with it. I fail to see how that is a useful tactic in gathering information.

Before we get completely off topic, this thread isn't about interrogation tactics and their validity...it's about the information President Obama released and if it was a risk to national security.

Imm 100% REAL. Why capture and pay to keep them held prisoner if we arent going to get information out of them? What use are they to us if there not going to give info?

And Yes Obama did risk national security in a way, by tellign them what is ok to do in interogation and what not. It gives them another tool to train on.
