Why do US stores think foreigners are stupid?

Almost everytime i want to buy a box of cards, online stores try to charge me a ridiculous ammount of money for shipping a box.

In some cases, after i telling them that the shipping is way cheaper, they reconsider and lower their price, but other times they just say "well this is what the mail company charges, so we can´t do anything".

Do they think i don´t check the US mail site to confirm the price? Do they think i never received anything from USA?

I received one of those card boxes with 800 base cards just last week from a friend, and the shipping costs are stamped there: $26.45. Yesterday dacardworld.com wanted me to pay $23 for shipping a 72 card box.

My guess is they do not think your stupid,they just don't want to go through the hassel of shipping out side the U S. It can be a pain to go through what all the PO make's you do.

Stamp cost is not shipping cost. Shipping cost include packaging, time for packing, time to mail the box and fill out all the form at the post office. Price on a label only tell part of the cost for a entreprise.

Mailling on international is more complicated, take more time and his more costly. One store might charge more because of all the extra time it may take.

Here's the other thing to remember...

The person who sent you the box with 800 cards probably used First Class mail.

Most online card shops use Priority Mail, especially with international shipping as you get a tracking number. To send a 2 pound package via the US Postal Service to you (in Portugal) via Priority Mail is $28.26 if you pay for the postage online. I'm not sure the exact cost of UPS or Fed Ex, but I'm sure that they are at least just as much.

Shipping costs to canada is one of the reasons why i tend to buy boxes from ebay as i can find sellers that charge 10-12 USD for shipping. I would love to be able to buy from DA or blowout more often but i can only justify the shipping costs if i buy many boxes at once.

I'm not sure how it is in the US, but I looked into the costs for shipping cards from Holland to Portugal and it seems that some rates to Portugal are more expensive than to various other countries because if the fact that often packages are flewn to Spain first, for safety reason they don't ship straight to Protugal. OR at least thaat's what Dutch customs told me. maybe that's a reason?
