Why CNN is finished

I know you are not defending Fox News, but to you were calling CNN dead based on a stupid competition against Ashton Kutcher. If you are going to call a news organization dead based on how many people are following them on a social site, then the point about Fox News is completely relevant.

Other than today while watching Larry King, I had never seen CNN mention this race (I had heard them mention their twitter page). I actually heard about it on Yahoo, FoxNews, and MSNBC before hearing about it once on CNN.

I'm not calling them dead based on that alone...that's just one of the many signs. The bad ratings, their painfully moronic iReport section, wasting time and resources that could be spent on news on events like the Twitter race...it all adds up to the fact that CNN is quickly becoming useless as a valid news source. I guess maybe I shouldn't say they're dead altogether, just quickly dying as a news outlet and becoming another E!.

Go ask anyone on the streets who isn't brainwashed, start polls on neutral internet sites about CNN or Fox news.

It will obviously be CNN, they are SO much less biased. This is the FIRST time in a long time i've seen this happen on CNN. Fox news does this every night :/

The problem is Fox News doesn't deny they're conservative. CNN tries to parade around like a fair, objective news channel and some people are actually ignorant enough to believe it. So they think they're getting the "real" news, but actually it's just more spin and the media feeding them whatever they want them to hear.

There's no doubt that FOX News gets more ratings (I'm sure this was the intended direction of the thread), but one must ask why. The answer is simple: many people tune in to humor themselves the the rants of Bill-O, Hannity, Beck, and company. Heck, I've done it on a few occasions. Those idiots are more entertaining (but less informative) than Larry, Anderson, and Brown.

Of course ratings don't tell the whole story, but you can't ignore them either...I know the channels themselves certainly don't. Look at it this way: just a few years ago, CNN was the #1 24 hour news channel far and away, no competition. Now they're getting killed in the ratings....that's not a good sign. Maybe they rebound and regain some market share, maybe they fall into the current pattern and remain #2 for a long time...but it is possible that they continue to decline.

I go back and forth between CNN and Fox. Both of them are obviously slanted toward one side more than the other, but there aren't any large MOR news networks out there, so we have to take what we can get when getting political reports on television.

For Fox, I actually like Beck - he's conservative while maintaining an actual sense of humor, and he doesn't pretend to be some pompous intellectual that many commentators (right or left) try to be; he's just a normal guy. I don't always agree with his views, but his common sense take is refreshing. O'Reilly may be the more erudite one, but he is extremely condescending and feigns being unbiased when he's as biased as the rest of them. At least Beck is upfront about being biased. :)

As opposed to the diverse opinions of the monolith of Fox News? Hardly. Each network operates in the same capacity. Actual news reporting and then the left or right wing bias in the evening.

I've never seen a Fox News "reporter" argue with a citizen like that. O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. are on talk shows and make no secret of their views. But I'm sure this woman claims to be a voice of unbaised news. Bull.

I think its funny people are arguing over which of these crappy networks is better or fairer. Providing substantial, insightful news isn't at the top of any of these networks' priority lists - they're on TV to entertain and incite. The "news" they do provide is almost all watered down and skewed.

Yes, but I still think its funny how people are so entrenched with the entertainment from these networks, that it is to the point where they argue over trivial, inconsequential (to them) issues like ratings. People still think they're getting expert analysis and all.

That's not as pointed as I would like it...I just have a whole different view on media.

I see what you're saying and I agree. It's basically just an extension of mindless Democrats vs. mindless Republicans...they just regurgitate what they're told by "their side" and anything the "other side" says must be wrong.

I distrust any and every media outlet and pay as little attention to them as possible. I don't watch any of the tv channels, I prefer to get my news online so I can read the story, find the facts, and discard all of the spin without having to sit through watching everything they have to say. The one radio personality I actually enjoy listening to, and that's only from time to time, is Larry Elder.
