It's amazing that someone couldn't just be happy with pulling an Ovechkin The Cup rc. Anyone who does something like that should get a life or step in front of a speeding bus. I would be so happy to pull any Ovechkin rc.
Collecting:Leafs Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Conacher, Horner, Broda, Bower, Clark, Gilmour and others.

It's just a resource. If anybody out there even comes close to having that many Ovy Cup RCs it would be LogoPatchCards - I think that they're up to 13 after pulling one in a break last week.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Replacing a Patch than the player wore 1 minute for a photo, for a patch he doesn't wore at all....

Just amazing...... When you consider the value of that card to begin with, I'm surprised someone would have the guys to tamper with it. Leave the tampering to the 2nd year cards :)

The "why" of patch faking is obvious. A better patch with more colors, or breaks, will demand a higher price. The seller is trying to "make a silk purse from a j paul getty and his ear" to borrow a line from Steven Tyler.
I think the ironic part of patch swapping is that the demand is for the original patch as if it had some intrinsic value. We say, "The original patch was a game worn Ovechkin!", but we really don't know that it was!
The small print dance that Upper Deck does on the back of jersey / patch cards gives us absolutely no guarantee that a swatch was game worn, photo shoot worn, out to dinner worn, or even touched by the player fetured on the card. So by comparison, the original and fake swatch are almost (I said almost) identical in their authenticity. The upside to the original patch is that it is backed (very loosely) by the Upper Deck name.
I, in no way condone patch swapping for the sole reason that it is intended to scam someone by fooling them into thinking a card is more valuable than it is. But then again, isn't that the goal of all sellers? (card dealers, auto salesman, real estate, etc...)
