I'm a T.E., and I find this post to be offensive. I probably have more experience in the USPS than some regulars do, and I know I don't get credit for it, but I've been bouncing around there since the summer of 2000 doing casual carrying and clerk work, even carried on the rural side(hated the constant driving). I screwed up a lot at first and probably made a few mistakes, but there were a few cool regulars who helped me out and even made me enjoy working there. If I had gone about things differently years ago rather than finishing up college and pursuing a sports management position, I'd probably have gotten in as a regular by now. Unfortunately, I came back, took the test at the wrong time and was lucky enough to get in as a TE. I'm confident that I'm one of the better carriers in my office and some regulars have been happy to have me fill in on their routes because I don't screw up like some others have(and no I don't kill routes and show ridiculous undertime like some TEs do as that just leads to injury, mistakes and burnout)
I mean maybe the job's not for some, but the training they give these guys and ladies when they come in is pretty sub-par, and management is usually pretty incompetent. Is this TE poorly trained or do they just not care? If they're poorly trained, help them out and maybe it'll improve. If the latter, sorry to hear, and hopefully they find you someone else that cares. Have fun carrying..later

It's the same thing here in Honolulu, as well. they're really anal about having a Bubble Mailer having a thickness of 3/4 in. to be able to get the DC otherwise Certified will be used. I've been told that this policy has been in effect for 3yrs now but when i was still living in California i never come across this issue. i don't know, i think it's really a matter of the P.O Clerk at the window implementing their policy or not. your best bet is to keep those extra piece of cardboard when you bust those UD Packs and just use those to make your shipment thicker otherwise invest on some bubble wrap or peanuts for shipping.

They did this to me at my post office as well. She told me just had me open it and she crumpled up some paper and threw it in there and taped it shut for me.
That's all you have to do is roll up a wad of paper and throw it in there, problem solved.

If your PO has a machine just use it, you can just say it's a letter, or use paypal shipping.

Due To Rules Violations
The rule has always been in place...Different post offices give different reasoning behind this...Some post offices dont enforce it at all while others are borderline nazi over it...Ive found the best and cheapest way to address the problem is to place a few "packaging peanuts" in the bubble mailers before sealing them....this way it adds to the thickness without compromising the value of what you are shipping..

As I do, I cut up mailers I get in from trades and stuff them in the mailers. A few friends taught me that trick

You ARE right."ALL"T.E.'s arent to blame. Our office is VERY understaffed and I probably was a bit hasty to single out T.E.'s in general.I apologize for that.As a postal employee as yourself. You can see where I'm coming from when I tell you I haven't had a t-6 in 2 years,so I have a different fill in everyday and it gets tiresome picking up mistakes. My 1st post was to answer why mail is misdelivered. On top of shaky T.E.'s and regulars, poor management and overburdened extra work on the carriers.(MEANING PIVOTS)is also to blame for poor service.Supervisors only care about numbers, which is pretty sad to hear.Whatever happened to the customer comes first?
(and no I don't kill routes and show ridiculous undertime like some TEs do as that just leads to injury, mistakes and burnout)<----that kinda made me chuckle because you hit the nail on the head. Those carriers get praised and yet the more safe ones get the nodding of the head(where the **** have you been" look....

Ok all,I found out the reason.I spoke to a very reliable source in the top clerk in my post office.Delivery conformation can ONLY be used on parcel post, not letters. So when the bubble mailer is 3/4 or less,it is NOT considered a parcel. If you want to track it you MUST use certified .If its over 3/4's,then you can use the delivery conformation.Remember as of May 11th,delivery conformation will be 80 cents.Certified mail will be 2.80.So make sure you all make the bubble envelopes 1 inch or more to qualify you under the PARCEL POST rule and you won't have anymore problems.Good luck traders!...peace
