Sorry but you NEED to get hdtv. Before I had hd, I couldn't see the things I see now. Baseball it's like your sitting on the green monster or behind the plate..or in a sweete with binocs. same with football/basketball...its crystall clear.

OOps just read some of the posts but not OPs...uhh on HDTV if you watch standerd tv w\o hd channels it appears WAY worse because HDTVs do essentially strech the picture like said.

red, It is the t.v. station you are watching it one. I lost my hd t.v. in my divorce and have a sony 2004 tv. My area has two cbs channels and one is always better than the other. Also the hd channels look better for me than the regular channels

What you're saying with your picture example is correct. HD means more pixels per inch...the standard tv is basically getting more pixels than it can accurately display, so it screws up the picture. A standard tv w/standard definition programming looks fine, because the pixels per inch equal out from the program to the tv.

i guess this means im right in my suspicion that its because the game is being broadcast in HD as well. doesn't TNT broadcast games in HD? because the Celtics game last night wasn't even close to being as bad as the Lakers game on ABC

I saw EXACTLY what you are talking about earlier tonight. ESPN got blocky its just like the example you provided. DirectTv's ESPN the culprit.
