Job!!!

OK, big news. My supervisor recommended me for a smaller office job..she could tell I was overwhelmed lately with the work. After a conversation, we agreed that it would be best for me to quit, and she would give a recommendation for me when I apply for my next job. She can tell I was very dedicated, but just not capable of doing so many things at once. I am very good at handling one task at a time, but not four or five. There isn't a man on the planet who multi-tasks worse than me..supposedly women are better at that generally, or so the stereotype goes, but I am about the most extreme exception ever to that stereotype.


So, my best bet now that I am officially done working there is to look for a smaller office job, one that does not require vast amounts of multi-tasking..or, if it's available, a job where I can do lots of proofreading! :)

That's very sad to hear Jamming.

Keep in mind if, in one year from now, your resume shows that you had 5 jobs- not good.
I'm not implying that's the path you'll be on, I'm just saying you might be in trouble if you're not good at multitasking, as most in most jobs it's just a second thought, it happens all the time and one needs to be able to do it.

I'm hoping your long siesta hasn't embedded in you a lethargic approach to things, and carried over in your first employment opportunity.

Sorry to hear Khendra,Although multi-tasking may not be your strong point at some point in time you will have to be able to handle it.Most jobs require it nowadays,Although your former boss is giving you a recommendation the future employer will ask,If she is such a good employee why are you letting her go.I'm hoping you find something that suits your needs but remember please for my sake try to improve at multi-tasking.Take care Steve

My supervisor said they wish they could have three receptionists because that is what they need to do the work they handle. They have not been able to keep receptionists lately (I was their third or fourth in a manner of weeks) because of this workload. However, they are currently not able to hire more than one at a time.

Sadly, I also wasn't able to do any writing on this job. I thought I would be able to since the initial interview had a vocabulary test (I scored the highest of any applicant they ever had), but as my supervisor pointed out to me, the test given during the interviews and the actual job unfortunately do not correlate in the way they wish it could.

Also, I know I can't admit being a bad multi-tasker in an interview. (My family actually insists I am not that bad of a multi-tasker anyway, so I might have overstated that.) I'm already being coached (and have been coached) by people who have done interviews before. As for them asking questions of my supervisor, she will respond to them in the way she best sees fit - that is not up to me.

So, yes, I'd like to have been able to do all that was needed on that job, but even though it didn't work out, I will always try - if I didn't try and was lazy/lethargic, my supervisor would not be recommending me.

You seem like a good writer. Have any interest in writing news articles, books, or something along those lines? Perhaps you are better suited for something of that sort.

Bonds, I wouldn't mind at all being in one of those fields, although it's notoriously difficult to break into them since the market demand is low and yet the personal interest is high. It's especially hard to find writing jobs offering regular paychecks as the typical 9 to 5 jobs do. Still, I make some small money on the side writing reviews for epinions.com (primarily books, music, and video games).
