Grading Question. Please Help.
I am not into graded cards that much, but I have picked up a few over the past couple of months. With Beckett and PSA is one favored over the other? Does 1 tend to grade cards higher than the other? Does this make those cards less valuable? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I also am trying to figure out the advantage of one over the other. From what I understand, PSA is better for vintage cards and BGS is better for more modern cards. Reason being is PSA takes the age of the card into consideration while BGS grades based solely on condition with age not being a factor.
This is my understanding and I could be wrong so please correct me everyone....Last edited by realreodeal; 05-12-2009 at 10:14 PM.

beckett also has a grading system for older cards called bcgv or something. It's for vintage only, but beckett seems to carry a bit more value from what I've seen.

That is what I have heard. I have a PSA graded 9 of Lebron's RC, if it was graded by beckett would it be an 8.5? Or would a 9 PSA just sell a little lower than a 9 Beckett?

Yah regulary, BGS 9 has a bit SV than PSA 9.
It depends on cards and released year.
But most of case, result is like that.

Thanks for the info guys. So if I have a PSA graded card, it isn't worth getting Beckett to re-grade it, right?

Actually, the answer is definitely "no".
If you have time, go to ebay then search like "PSA 9" or "BGS 9".
Ton of cards there.
Funnily Graded card is not dealt like double value of un-graded card.
But that is real world.
Even Grading Expert(really do flip-flop) can't guarantee much profit if he send card to regrade.
Because you have to pay shipping, grading fee.
So most of case, it is cleverer to buy graded card than grading by your self.(Except you have plan to keep something as permanently.)

The same card with a BGS grading will usually sell a bit higher than it would if it was PSA graded. IMO i dont see a difference. BGS/PSA.. to me a 9 is a 9 and the card looks great in either slab...
Its an ongoing debate how its such a conflict of interest that Beckett Slabs the card and then places the values on the cards... hmmm... that cant be manipulated.
