That's why I mentioned them with today's tools of the trade. If you were to compare goalie for goalie based on what they had at the time, then this topic would have to be broken down into eras.
Best goalie of the
50's-69- Plante, Sawchuk,
70-80- Tretiak, Espositio
80-90- Smith, Roy, Vanbiesbrouck, Barasso
90-2009- Roy, Brodeur, Luongo,
To pick one is impossible. I wonder if Plante could have survived wearing Brodeur's gear? I wonder if Brodeur would have survived wearing Plante's gear?
I can never say that Roy and Brodeur are the best of the modern era. But they are the best of the last 20 odd years.

I'd vote for Hasek, put up better goaltending numbers than all the others

I guess Hasek sucked pretty bad for not being included in the 90-00s. After all, he only won the following:

When both Roy and Brodeur were/are playing... One more thing, Hasek ranks 1st place — Highest career save percent (.922). haha even Barasso is better than the dominator?

Easy now, if you have an opinion lets hear it instead of whining that I didn't include Hasek!
Hasek won a lot of games for Buffalo, but he's not on my list.

I wonder why he doesn't get any attention from the media when people talk about subjects such as this one?
You always hear about Brodeur, Roy and Luongo, but hardly ever Hasek.

i'd have to say that brodeur is the best to ever play. Roy is 2. too much of a logjam of greats past that.

The problem with this "best ever" thing is that it is completely subjective. As cnshockey mentioned, there are a ton of great goalies that all have a valid case, but stat wise its hard to say anyone other than Brodeur or Roy.
The reason Hasek does not get more love is because his period of dominance was limited to only 7-8 years, while there are quite a few guys who have been pretty darn good for twice that long. He was also never media friendly, and a complete j/o to boot. Also, not being Canadien meant that he did not get as much exposure as guy like Dryden, Roy or Brodeur.

Can't believe not one mention of Ken Dryden. I am not much of a Canadians fan, but 7(or 8) years, 5 Vezinas, 6 Cups...258 wins, only 57 loses and 46 shutouts and don't forget '72. Imagine if he played 16-17 years...

honestly best goalie argument is as dumb as debating whos better between ovie/crosby. no matter how much you debate, you will never get a consensus.
