In college I was a intern for the bruins. There would be days when the players would just sit down with cards stickers and tubs full of gu stuff and just sign.

The problem is really more about the mistakes made in production of cards.
Jerseys that dont make sense for a player to have worn in a game wind up on cards. The most logical explaination is usually the right one. People who make the cards dont always know what theyre doing, and probably make mistakes sometimes when swatches are placed on cards. Could there be fraud? Sure. But my guess is that it's at the individual level, not the corporate level. People at UD's manufacturer could be stealing/swaping jerseys, or more likely when a jersey runs out, substitutes it with another to finish card production.
This most likely occurs with players who are not big names, but not rookies. The big names are going to be thoroughly inspected. The rookie photoshoot jerseys cost UD nothing, so no point in screwing anyone there, and are not likely to run out during production.
I will say there are some stupid things that happen. Such as the year after a team changes its jersey (or even a few years) the old jerseys are worn by players in photoshoots and cut into cards. This happened specifically with Fredrik Norrena and other CBJ RCs from that year. Stinger was no longer on the jersey, but they used jerseys with stinger patches in photo shoots (or they didnt but we were told they did when complaining about the fact that they shouldnt be there).
What it boils down to is that UD's customer service department is light years ahead of it's quality control department.

Little different on a higher end card I have, think they are a little more careful on a higher end product, where in some cases a consumer may take more precautions and concerned about authenticity

Huh? How is that different? I still see the same statement?
"Certified to us as being used"
I am saying it's a Kolzig jersey!

That was an amusing answer.
I still think they have the wrong stuff going into a lot of these cards pre-production.
Again, just look at their statement. Not only does it allow them to wash their hands of any responsibility of whether or not is actually game used, but they also can't even say for certain it is of said player.
It doesn't say certified to us as being used BY (insert player) in an NHL game.
Just as being used in an NHL game. That leads me to believe most of you would cry seeing that Chris Tamer Thrashers jersey being cut for Kovalchuk cards..........................

So what you are actually saying is this:
"I have absolutely no proof at all, and am just basing it off my opinion"
I think that answers the question about 'proof' you were asked, much better then what you put above.
With that being said, I am no huge fan of Upper Deck either - but with them being the only licensed player in the game (no pun intended, lol) if you want official NHL stuff it's the way you have to go.

Why is it the only way? ITG has game used stuff?
Oh yeah, if you want rookies or team logo images, sure, then it's UD.
And, actually, if you go through this whole thread it has been proven UD has used fraudulent items in their products. The Minnesota Wild stuff is a great example.
My personal favorite of recent memory is the rookie year stuff of Ovechkin in the 05/06 Cup.
UD "claimed" they purchased a gamer from MeiGray but the swatches they put on the card were from the OPPOSITE style jersey. I can't remember if it was a home or road they claimed to have purchased? But, say it was a home jersey, there were road jersey swatches......
Ooooopsie.
Down goes UD, down goes UD.

That card says "Alexander Ovechkin game used memorabilia"
Compared to my Patrick Kane rookie review patch auto that says
"You have received a card with game used hockey memorabilia and an autograph of Patrick Kane"
The wording on the two is alot different, on the first you can conclude the pieces are OV game worn, while the Kane card might not be Kane game worn

Gotcha, I had to re-read it. That said, why do they state it IS AO Game Used NHL memorabilia and then step back in the next sentence by saying certified to us as game used?
Are they saying it is or they're not sure? See what I mean?
