not at all, i am so lost, orange and black all the way, we just dealt our best dman prospect, a top 5 goal scorer, oh and throw in 2 1's...for a 34 year old dmen who has 1 year left on his contract...

reminds me of our trade of Patrick Sharp for a STUD defensemen...Mark Ellison...wait who??

GET HOLGREN OUT OF HERE BIG GOON HOCKEY DOESNT WORK ANYMORE!!

I think we just lost Richards...he was mad at Holmgren last year when we dealt Upshall, Lupul was Richards best friend on the team, this is not gonna go over well...

Calm down my friend. Holmgren has done everything for the Flyers since becomming our GM. He rebuilt our team in less than a year. When a team finishes last in the NHL, they usually stay at the bottom of the league for 3,4,5,6, or longer. He got us back to the playoffs after one awful season and was a magician.

Pronger is not just a big goon. He's the strength and nastiness that we lack. Our team didn't compete in the playoffs. As great of a captain as Richards will be, something was missing and the team didn't drive as hard as htye should have. Pronger gives us someone who still has a lot left in him and is still big and nasty. He's not just a good sir. He has a crazy shot and can move the puck well. He makes smart choices in his own zone.

Sbisa is really the only loss that I'm upset over. Lupol is garbage, he was our worst player in the defensive end, and he had the second highest body fat %. I'm happy he's gone. Sbisa will turn out to be a nice defenseman, but he's still iffy. Next years draft is going to be a wash, and this year at pick number 21 a player they would of selected would need at least 2-4 yeras to develop before even making it to the phantoms.

Everyone in Philly wants to win now. Stop being so critical on everything the professionals do and let this play out. This is a smart move, and just like Pierre Mcguire said..."philly has an amazing defense now, maybe the top in the East"

we will see...you are the first fan I have heard who isn't going nuts right now...i will take what you say and calm down a little...I just don't like it initially...i think it really hurts the young chemistry we had on this team, maybe that's not a bad thing if they were too laid back...

The only sport I follow is hockey, and to win the Cup you usually take drastic measures. Sbisa has a tough route to actually play on this team any time soon with Timmonen, Coburn, Carle, Alberts, and Jones to get by.

Everyone in Philly wanted bouwmeester, but rumors are they wanted Gagne, JVR, and a draft pick for his rights. Or it may have been Briere, JVR, or whoever else.

The point is, we still have JVR in the system. A #2 overall pick and someone who should fit into our top 9 in the next 1-2 years. Claude Giroux is rigth now our most skilled player. By skilled I don't mean our highest point getter, but in a year or two he will be. He's a player I follow closely and have for several years. Giroux will fit on a line with Carter, or even Richards and will make those players score 10-15 more goals then they would have.

Pronger is the best defenseman we've had in a long time. It's no offense to Desjardins or Timmonen, but Pronger has won a cup and he is a great two way defenseman. He's 6'6. He ISNT hatcher. I repeat, he is NOT HATCHER. Hatcher was big and slow. Pronger still has his legs, and he's powerful.

Lupol may one day be a 30 goal scorer, but until he grows up and stops partying I can't see that happening. He enjoys the bar scene too much and there are too many question marks with him.

Sbisa will be a great player, but he needs to go to a team that can fit him in. This years draft we would of taken a player like Kevin Marshall who is in our system and still may need two or three yearst o make it to the nhl level.

Everyone in Philly wants a cup. Keeping Lupol will not get us there. That's something I guarantee.

Again...its a risky move for Holmgren, but the man has done nothing but make smart moves since he came here. While briere is a cap problem, when he isn't hurt he is a good player. He produces in the playoffs and on the powerplay. He wasn't a bad move, but its time to move his salary.

agree with your assessments on Giroux, the pros of keeping JVR in the system, and if we do well our 1st rounders will be bad picks anyway, I guess I just view it as if we deal all of this for a 34 yo dmen and he leaves after this year when his contract expires, and we don't win a cup...then what...

I follow the Flyers hardcore, but in all honesty don't follow the West all too much. I will take what you say, but for it to be a success we basically have to win it now. Al Morganti (who I respect a lot) says we paid a STEEP price, and he is unsure if it was worth it, but he says it's a typical flyer move, they are going for it, we wait to see if it pays off.

exactly how did this deal help the Flyers??

I'm not shocked that Lupul is gone, at a 4.25 Million Cap hit, that was an easy trade to make, but to ADD 2 million to your cap??? Frankly, I'm stunned that the Flyers would make this deal.

Briere has to be gone, right?

I like the deal as well. We have enough scoring and Lupul cant handle the puck at all. He is too fidgity with the puck as soon as it is on his stick. This is a move so the flyers can win NOW. If they do that then this deal becomes irrelivant because well all it is about is winning and if they do that you cant be unhappy.

Funny part about all this is Lupul was part of the trade that brought Pronger to Anaheim....Actually - the trades are not that far apart...So in the Long run, the Ducks didnt lose.......

Edmonton Oilers traded Chris Pronger to the Anaheim Ducks for Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid, a 1st round selection in 2007, a conditional 1st round selection and a 2nd round selection in 2008.

The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenceman Chris Pronger and forward Ryan Dingle to the Philadelphia Flyers for defenceman Luca Sbisa, forward Joffrey Lupul, two first-round picks and a conditional third-round pick in 2010 or 2011.
