Not that surprising that he is staying in Spain because it is all about the financial part of the situation. I am sure if he didn't have to pay the 6 million buyout, he would be playing in Minny this year. It doesn't really matter to me, Flynn will be running the show for a long time there.

Why, he's still apart of your team. Plus you have Flynn right now

some may disagree but Minnesota could have had a much better draft then that. Rubio would have stayed if drafted by the knicks. plus they drafted 3 pg with their 3 first picks. granted they gave Lawson up, very happy bout that. but they still have Ellington. In my mind having 4 picks in the 1st round and I think they had 6 overall that was poorly planned by their upper offices. thats just my opinion.

Rubio would not have stayed if he was drafted by the Knicks. His buyout is too expensive.

I don't think Minnesota had any inclination that Rubio was going to play for them this year when they drafted him...... everyone knew the buyout situation and that he wouldn't be able to afford it, and there wasn't any way around it.

His buyout had been out in the open for months, otherwise he probably would have been drafted higher anyway. Not a bad plan by Minnesota though- he'll continue to develop overseas without them paying for him, they will still be below average and stockpile some more lottery picks before he arrives, and then when he finally arrives maybe they have some more pieces in place and they have him under a $3 million salary for three more years.
