Well it is a good sign when your backup running back goes for 4 touchdown's and your new WR catches one pass for 49 yards. Seems like they have an offense this year, along with that incredible defense.

    ***Injury Update***

Offensive tackle Mike Williams did not practice with the team on Tuesday and wore a protected boot on his right ankle. Bills Head Coach Mike Mularkey said he sprained his arch and won't be sidelined too long. "Obviously it's discouraging for him and us because we're trying to get those guys together and make the calls and get a feel for each other," said Mularkey. "At that position you really want to know what you're buddy is doing as well yourself. Yea, it's disappointing."

    ***Injury Update***

A couple more minor injuries to add:

Monday, the Bills returned to the practice field for the first time since the scrimmage with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. Defensive tackle Sam Adams practiced with the team but defensive tackle Justin Bannan (wrist) and defensive back Mark Graham (hamstring) watched both the morning and afternoon workouts. The Bills take the practice field for a lone 2-45-5:15 session Tuesday afternoon.

    ***Observations***

    Found this on another board:

    On to observations...

At QB - Bledsoe looks to be shaping up a bit. Last week he seemed to be favoring Moulds during scrimmages. It seems now that he is loosening up to other recievers, and trusting in Lee and Reed to catch the ball.(as they have). It is nice to watch him finally spread the ball around the field. I think knowing that he can rely on some of the other recievers will allow for him to stop forcing the pass to Moulds. Losman is starting to impress. He was shaky before the Browns scrimmage and now that he has that under his belt I think he is relaxing more in his skin. He still runs out of the pocket WAY too fast but it is nice to see a quick, agile QB for once. Today he rolled out drew the LB in with a tuck then lobbed a perfectly tossed ball to the WR ten yards down. Though I have to say I think Bledsoe is learning a bit because he "olayed" a blitzing LB then stepped up out of the pocket moved away from the rush. Then darted one 20 yards down to Josh Reed who made a great grab on the sideline.

RB- McGahee continues to impress. Though Travis looked just as great hitting the huge holes the oline created. If practice continues on to real games, It is going to be REAL FUN watching both tear up the field. Willis is showing his power and speed more each day. Running through traffic and once he sees daylight, hitting those afteburners of his.

WR- Lee Evans was back with 1st team again. Lining up opposite of Moulds. Shaw was running in on 3rd/4th stringgers. Aiken had been playing with 2nd and looked good doing so.. but saw some time catching passes from Bledsoe within scrimmage. Again as stated in the QB area all were making some spectacular catches and it is nice to see Bledsoe making some nice deep passes perfect into coverage again.

OL - Big Mike was out today as mentioned. Running game looked to be making huge holes for the RBs. Outside pressure was the issue today, though the tackles stayed on the blocks and the QBs all made some good adjustments of stepping up a bit and releasing the ball quick enough where it wasnt too much of a problem today... todays focus though was working with the backs in thier zone blocking system. Though he is a RB and should be in that category Damien Shelton looked like he was picking up his man really well. He surprised me today.

Defense - Gildon is going to be fun. I heard MM on the radio station tonight coming home saying he has been creating havoc on the line with blocking. Nobody knows if he is rushing, dropping back or switching with the tackle. I cant wait to watch opposing team lines try to do the same.

Secondary- It is going to be a tough call at FS. Coy is getting quicker on his reads. I watched him on one-on-one drills and he helled his own versus the WRs. Both have improved since last years camp.

    ***Free Safty Battle***

There are a couple of key position battles going on. I'll update the main ones. Like I said before, there is a lot of tallent on this team. I'm not sure which 12 are going to get cut by September 5.

    Free Safety

The competition is currently between incumbent starter, Izell Reese, and challengers, Coy Wire and Rashad Baker. Wire has made the move from strong safety and is looking to get back into the starting rotation.

"Izell's been doing a great job," Gray said. "He puts himself into a position to make plays. Coy Wire has been doing a good job. He's been getting closer to the player we need in that position. It's a new position for him. People don't understand that Coy played most of his career close to the line of scrimmage and this is a major adjustment. It's new to him but he's learning. He's been playing there about seven months and he's come a long way. We've also got a young guy in (Rashad) Baker who's been doing a great job. He's been coming on and getting some flashy interceptions. I see this competition being tight between these three guys. Izell's coming on strong and hopefully he can get in there and make this team better."

    ***Defensive End Battle***

Chris Kelsay is challenging starter Ryan Denney for the starting left end spot opposite Aaron Schobel. Free agent pick-up Jason Gildon could also factor into the mix. Kelsay and Denney have both been splitting time with the first unit.

"Chris Kelsay and Ryan Denney have been doing a great job," Gray said. "Those guys are friends but they are going to be competing and that's what's going to make our team better. They're real good friends but they know they need to compete against one another at a very high level. It's not like one is a good run stopper and one is a good pass rusher, it's not that at all. They've both been working on pass rushing and on run blocks. When you look at their production, it's about the same. Nobody has really come forth yet and said, 'I want to be the guy.' They're both playing good enough to start but they need to show us who wants it more. Jason (Gildon) will give us a few more options to give some teams some different looks. He'll help us out a lot when we play a 3-3 alignment. Last year we put Jeff (Posey) on the line during that formation, but we were short a quality linebacker to fill in. Now we can still play Jeff on the line and have Jason as a linebacker. He'll also get some work at defensive end in various packages."

    ***Nickel Cornerback Battle***

Terrence McGee and Kevin Thomas are the two main competitors. Each is vying for time in the Bills nickel package along with Nate Clements and Troy Vincent.

"I think Kevin (Thomas) and Terrence (McGee) are doing a good job," Gray said. "Terrence was out for a little bit. He was a little nicked up but he's competing. He's got the skill to get in there and play. Nickel corner is one of the harder positions because you've got to read the quarterback, you've got to read the line and you've got to make tackles. Each guy is qualified to play the spot so that's going to be a healthy competition also. All in all our team will be better because we will be getting the maximum amount of ability out of these guys. Everyone has to raise their game to play on this defense."

    ***Back Up QB Battle***

With Drew Bledsoe the clear-cut starter, candidates Travis Brown, J.P. Losman, and Greg Zolman are vying or the back-up role. Brown has been listed second on the depth chart for months now, while J.P. is entering his rookie season in the NFL after being selected by the Bills in the first round of April's draft.

"Travis Brown has had an excellent camp," Clements said. "He's performed well during the spring and he's a solid back-up right now. J.P. (Losman) is still learning the system and getting used to the NFL and making progress, but Travis is solid at that second spot."

    ***WR Battle***

Here's probably the best battle of camp. I'm going for Evans and his blazing speed:

Incumbent starter, Josh Reed, is looking to hold onto his position. He is fighting off rookie Lee Evans and proven veteran Bobby Shaw.

"All of our receivers are having pretty good camps," Clements said. "Obviously Eric Moulds is our No. 1 guy, and then you have Josh Reed and Lee Evans. They've both been bouncing around to different positions, especially Josh. Josh is also having a great camp. The competition for all the receivers has made them all better."

Mularkey added to Clements' comments saying it's a two-man race between Reed and Evans.

"It's pretty much even right now," Mularkey said. "Both Josh (Reed) and Lee (Evans) are getting equal reps with the first team and the second unit. I don't think anyone has done anything more or less to step-up. Right now this spot is down to Josh and Lee."

Mularkey and his staff will continue to evaluate all position battles on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He's hoping to have the starting rotation in place "as soon as we can."
