Would you be willing to pay more for your pack breaks? Because that's what would happen if stickers were to be eliminated - right now there's a sort-of tiered system when it comes to autographs: the less expensive products (Black Diamond, UD, etc.) get stickers while the more expensive products (OPCP, Cup, etc.) get hard-signed autos. The notable exception to this rule is, of course, SPGU, which gouges collectors for $45 a pack and you still get stickers. It's not easy to get the players scheduled for autograph sessions, what with their busy schedules during the regular season/playoffs and a lot of them don't want to take up too much of their little downtime in the summer to be signing stuff. I know that UD only gets a couple Saku Koivu sessions per year, so it's difficult for them to be able to get marquee players to do the big stuff later in the year when the high-demand high-price tag sets are out. By having sticker signings the company is able to have players featured in as many sets as possible--whether that's a good thing is a separate matter of discussion entirely.
I'm not a big fan of the stickers; I love hard-signed cards, but I totally understand the perceived necessity of those little shiny labels.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
